Phoenix Players

Phoenix Players We’re a Brinsworth-based amateur dramatics company which has been running since 1947 and produces 3 shows per season. Membership fees are £30 for the year.

Specialising in comedy and mysteries, you’re guaranteed a great night out at the theatre every time! 🎭🎟️ The Phoenix Players have been producing high quality drama and comedy since 1947 and currently produce three shows each season at Rotherham Civic Theatre. We always welcome new members and rehearse in comfortable surroundings at Brinsworth Pavillion on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s. We also offer £20 membership fees to anyone aged 16-21.

This weeks throw back Thursday takes us back to April 1995 and the fabulous play Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier adapted for the stage by Clifford Williams . It follows the return to Manderley of Maxim de Winter and his new bride after the supposed accidental death of his first wife Rebecca. It's a haunting story and was the first leading role for Sue Jennings. Julie Webb played Mrs Danvers with suitable menace
It had many logistical issues and we had the now infamous stair case built -we also had to give the impression that we burnt the house down.
Directed by Tracey Briggs it was a huge success

This weeks throw back Thursday takes us back to January 2019 and the fabulous comedy Seasons Greetings by Alan Aykbourn. It follows four days in the life of a dysfunctional family starting on Christmas Eve, and is set in a typical English suburban house.
It gave us the chance to show off our Christmas jumpers

This weeks throw back Thursday takes us back to October 2009 and the beautiful play Shadowlands by William Nicholson. This is based upon the life of the author C.S.Lewis famous for his Narnia books and his relationship with the American writer Joy Gresham.
It's a love story with a tragic end and we managed to do it justice with some powerful performances from a strong cast . They say never work with children and animals but this play had a very young George Glasby (10yrs old) as Douglas who was fabulous. It was very much a family affair as his aunt Sue Jennings played his mother Joy and his grandfather Colin Briggs played Warnie.
Directed by Neil Mather it was a huge success
