💜WORLD IBD DAY AWARENESS 💜
💜I’m doing this a day early as I’m away!💜
Today I’m helping to raise awareness of crohns and colitis!
This is not IBS! Both crohns and colitis is an autoimmune disease that affects your bowel!
Severe inflammation leading to so many symptoms including debilitating fatigue, if inflammation cannot be controlled there are so many who need lifelong stomas and parts of their bowels removed entirely aswell as those who are in critical condition
Today I share my story and two year journey so far….
When pregnant with my youngest five years ago I noticed when going to the toilet a severe amount of blood in the toilet,I was told it was just hemmoroids and the pressure of the baby, once I wasn’t pregnant it would ease up,then I had my baby and it still didn’t change,I requested a FIT test which measures blood in your feacal matter, my dr would not give me one, over the four years I requested one regularly,a simple test people have everyday and he would not give me one,he told me it was my anxiety,he sent me to a counsellor instead who told me he was wrong and to continue pushing for answers,(thank you Angela),a family member paid for me to see a private consultant but I still needed a gp referral, my dr referred me with severe health anxiety rather than my symptoms which led the consultation to be a waste of time and money due to talking about my mental health even though by the time I got the consultation I’d had a colonoscopy and we were waiting on biopsy results! As simultaneously to this I had asked another gp for a FIT test and the results were high,a normal amount of blood in your poo is between 1-10,mine was 191! I was then put on an emergency two week wait and had my colonoscopy, which showed inflammation, biopsy’s were taken and it showed moderate active ulcerative colitis in the last ten cm of my re**um which is called proctitis, the dr who told me I had anxiety and denied me this test for four years still claims this is due to my constipation, needless to say I have changed my lead GP after this and still feel angry at the gaslighting, discrimination and manipulation, using my mental health against me, but I’m now under the right care,I see my ibd nurse Maggie and although still not under control fully I am getting there!
Keep believing in yourself because this is an example of why you need to keep pushing for answers!
