🧵 SEWING MACHINE TIP OF THE DAY

Ever turned your fabric over and found a horrible tangled nest of thread underneath? 😩

Your first instinct might be to blame the bobbin…

But very often, the problem is actually coming from the TOP thread.

If the upper thread hasn't seated correctly in the tension system, it can cause loops and tangles underneath your fabric.

Before you start changing tension settings, try this:

👉 Raise the presser foot
👉 Completely remove the top thread
👉 Rethread the machine carefully
👉 Lower the presser foot and try again

It’s such a simple thing, but you'd be surprised how often it fixes the problem!

There seem to be two types of sewists:

🧵 DID YOU KNOW?

The sewing machine didn't just change the way we made clothes -Singer helped change the way we SHOPPED.

In the 1800s, sewing machines were simply too expensive for many ordinary families to buy outright.

So Singer introduced hire purchase/installment payments, allowing people to have a sewing machine at home and pay for it gradually. The Smithsonian describes Singer as a pioneer of installment sales, and its archives even contain an 1889 receipt for a $2.50 first payment on a Singer sewing machine.

So next time you buy something and think...

“I'll just pay for it monthly…”
..you can partly blame the sewing-machine industry!
