How long does it take to set up the Phone Box?

We’ve got this down to a science. But depending on the crew on the day, here is exactly what goes on behind the scenes:

The Solo Mission (45 Minutes):

If I’m setting up on my own, it takes just under an hour. Being vertically challenged at 5'6" means the roof panel requires a bit of strategy and a trusty step stool, but I always make it happen

The Dream Team (25–30 Minutes):

More often than not, I’ll have an extra pair of hands with me. With a team of two, we can get the entire Phone Box built, tested and polished in less than half an hour.

The Golden Rule

As I mentioned in a previous video, setup time is only half the battle. The real secret to success is placement.

To get those hilarious, heartfelt and unforgettable video guestbook messages, the phone box must be placed in a prominent, high-traffic position.

If it’s tucked away in a quiet corner, your guests might miss it, but put it near the action and they won't be able to resist!

What is something that instantly changes the mood in a room?

For a wedding reception, this is an incredibly easy question to answer.

From a DJ’s perspective, it’s 100% the music.

But it’s not just about playing good tracks, it’s about playing the right song at the right time.

Think about the flow of a typical wedding night:-

The Arrival: Soft background music as day and evening guests mix.

The Formals: The First Dance and Father-Daughter dance.

The Build-Up: Transitioning from background vibes to upbeat tracks.
Here’s a pro-tip: A wedding night has a lot of "stop-and-start" moments.

The goal is to get all the formal obstacles out of the way by about 9:00 PM. Once those are done, you can unleash the pure party music and keep that dance floor packed until the final song!

The ultimate mood-killer? A guest request played at the wrong time. It can instantly clear a floor, forcing the DJ to work twice as hard to build that energy back up.

Question. How do you ensure the older generation uses the selfie mirror?

Plot twist: You actually don’t have to!

When we first introduced the Selfie-Mirror, I had this major fear that our older guests would completely skip it.

It made sense at the time, with a traditional Photo Booth, you have the comfort of a closed curtain and a little bit of secrecy. The Selfie-Mirror, on the other hand, puts you completely out in the open and on display.

But as it turns out. It was a fear I never needed to have.

The reality is completely flipped. The younger generations are actually much more inhibited and wrapped up in their phones, whereas the older generation are busy living in the moment.

They’re the ones absolutely crushing the Selfie-Mirror game, grabbing the bride and groom, striking the best poses and constantly coming back for round two, three, and four!

Question. What is the most beautiful first dance you have ever seen?

Having spent 14 years as a wedding DJ and working across thousands of receptions providing photo services, I’ve seen a lot of love stories take the floor.

One specific moment jumps out above all the rest.

It was 2015 at Wadhurst Castle.
They were trained ballroom dancers, and they decided to bring that magic to their first dance. It was utterly breathtaking. I was so enthralled by their performance that I almost missed the cue for their second song!

The magic didn't stop there, either. Throughout the evening, we played more ballroom tracks because a huge group of their friends were dancers, too.

The energy in the room was unmatched.

If you have the time, the passion, or the bravery to learn, I would actively encourage couples to ballroom dance for their first dance. It elevates the entire night into something unforgettable.

What inspires your creativity in work?

I’m a creative person first and a business person second.

A perfect example of this happened earlier this year. Back in January, we brought some incredible new products on board. We knew that to make the booking process seamless we needed to bundle them into easy-to-understand packages.

The first iteration: We designed 6 comprehensive packages. We thought we were offering ultimate freedom and choice.

The reality check: Instead of feeling empowered, our customers hit a wall of decision fatigue. Too many options meant they didn't know where to start.
So, we listened, adapted and stripped away the noise. We simplified our offerings down from 6 packages to 3.

Sometimes you have the absolute right idea, but your first or second iteration won’t be the final masterpiece.

You can’t always perfect a concept on paper or in your head. You have to actually bring the idea to life, put it out into the world and watch it breathe in order to know how to truly make it work.
