If we lose our recording studios, where will the next generation of music be made?

Music Producers Guild are lobbying for the cut in business rates to be extended to recording studios, and we fully support the campaign.

As Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham has visited Voltalab and knows first-hand the importance of recording studios to our music ecosystem.

Studios like ours are where artists write, record, experiment, learn and develop. We’re the infrastructure behind the music industry - supporting independent artists, producers, engineers, musicians and the wider grassroots music community.

But rising costs and business rates are putting increasing pressure on independent studios across the country.

If we lose our studios, we lose the places where music is made.

Music Producers Guild are calling for recording studios to be included in business rates relief and they need our help. They’re gathering data from studios across the country to take to government and demonstrate why studios need support. If you run a recording studio, make sure you complete their survey!

We had such fun with all of the artists recording Kenion Street!
For us, this project was always about spotlighting some of the current Rochdale artists that we are so lucky to have in our town, and showcasing their incredible talent. I think we deffo did that - the album sounds awesome. Everyone made their covers completely their own, and they all smashed it at the launch gig back in March at the Heywood Civic.

Make sure you go and check out all of their original music too. Support your local music scene and musicians!
