Oooooh - Look what’s hanging in the window of the new picture framers and gallery that has opened in our village. Exciting!!!! And a bit surreal 🤣😍
It’s got me thinking about ‘firsts’. And how each small first step adds up to massive shifts in direction.

The first time I picked up a pencil and drew something after a thirty year hiatus.
The first life drawing class.
The first painting.
The first time I posted my art on instagram.
The first sale.
The first open studio.
The first show.
The first art fair.
The first time my painting is on display in a gallery window.

Each first takes courage because saying yes comes with risk. The risk of failure, of not being good enough, of never being good enough, of being judged, of the shame that comes with being seen and with chasing down your dreams.

But each yes shifts your direction, almost imperceptibly. One shift, then another, and another. Until one day you realise you’re actually ‘doing the thing.’ And it feels kind of crazy, and unreal and exciting and quite scary, all at the same time 🤩
I guess what I’m getting at is this. If you have a dream, get out there and take the first step, however small. Because all it takes is that first one degree shift and a little bit of courage 💖✨

This one is making me smile today 😍 ‘A wild kind of beautiful’. Painted earlier this summer through one of our many heatwaves, and now looking rather fabulous on our landing, hung above my repotted cheese plant (second pic is the root ball - honestly, I have no idea how it stayed alive 😳🤣🤩)
If you love her, she’s available. Link to shop is in my bio - thank you 🤩😍

What a magical week that was! Photos don’t do it justice, I actually didn’t take that many, too immersed in the moment 😍 Explored a gorgeous corner of Dorset with Seb, caught up with my brother, laughed (a lot) and painted - four days immersed in the most amazing colour workshop with the astonishingly talented Hugo Grenville whose work I have long admired. The sun shone, the birds sang, and our middle-of-nowhere holiday cottage (with the bath in the kitchen 🤣), was straight out of a fairy tale. Hugo’s home, gardens, set up, and lovely team, were all super special. Met some fabulous artists, worked hard (for anyone who thinks this painting malarkey is easy - think again 😳😂) and learnt loads. So lucky to get to do this 🤩💖 Thank you, thank you, thank you, to everyone who made it such a memorable week and to the universe for adding the magic and the sparkles☀️😍

Hello! Wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who visited for open studios - it means the world! Thank you so much 🤩🙏😁 You made it such a fun week, and absolutely exhausting too 🤣. I have spent the past few days quietly floating around the moors and pottering in the garden. Heaven 😍. Obviously, I completely forgot to get any pics of me in my studio, so here’s me and the dog instead 🤣😍
Recent paintings have been updated on my website, there’s a couple more to add but they will have to wait til after my holiday 🤩 I’m planning to spend the rest of the summer pottering around and experimenting. I’ve got loads of ideas zooming around my head which I’m keen to explore. Exciting!!
Right, off to sort the packing……All the time in the world and still always last minute…..🤷‍♀️🙄😂
Ps Anyone else not watching the football?! 😂

‘Rule breaker, joy maker’. 🤩 My second painting on show at Holmfirth civic hall this week.

This is my fourth year of exhibiting in art week and the first year I haven’t had epic imposter syndrome and massive feelings of shame from seeing my art up on the walls 🤦‍♀️🤣 It’s still not easy, not comfortable - I guess it’s that ‘knowing you’re being judged’ thing. (Alongside the fact that the paintings I submitted are not very conventional…….🤷‍♀️😂)
Anyway, whilst I’m a long way from confident, I do think there is something in the old adage that says confidence only comes from taking action - you can’t think your way into it.
So if it’s your first time showing your art and you’re feeling kind of icky about the whole thing, just know it gets easier! And a massive well done for taking the leap and for putting yourself out there……that’s the win 😉😍
“Rule breaker, joy maker”. 54cm square framed size. Acrylic on stretched canvas. Available for £400 through art week (with 20% to charity 🤩)

New work, open studios and Holmfirth art week - All coming up next week. Exciting!!! 🤩🤩🤩
Studios Globe Arts (venue 43) are open as follows.
Wed 12-3pm
Thurs 12-3pm
Fri 12-3pm
Sat 12-3pm
You can fine me in Globe 1, opposite the Long Wall Gallery space. Am planning to be in all four days (though it’s worth dropping me a message to double check😍) Come say hi 👋 and see what I’m up to (mostly making a giant mess while trying to silence the non stop inner chatter telling me it’s all sh*te and pointless and I’m never going to be a Tracy Emin or a David Hockney so I should just give up now…….the story of every artist everywhere! 🙄🤣).

I also have two paintings in the main show at the civic hall in Holmfirth (open 10-5pm tomorrow, 10-9pm every day next week, and 10-5pm Sat 11th July) and a couple on show in the Methodist church, Marsden (venue 50. Open Wed to Sat, 12-3pm).

This painting is called ‘Sunshine and Candyfloss.’ and is all about that lovely giddy, hopeful feeling of spring. 50cm square, acrylic on canvas (54 cm square framed size). Available from the Civic Hall, Holmfirth. £400 with 20% going to charity (MacMillan and Kirkwood). Oh, and as ever, it’s far brighter and sparklier in real life than insta ever allows 🤣

Pink peonies 🤩🌸🌺 They really are the most fabulous flowers (although to be fair, I think this about all flowers…..and most weeds 🤣). I’ve just finished this painting today 🤩. It’s one that I painted last year which ended up in the pile of ‘almost there but not quite’ paintings. I’m really liking it now…..although it is quite bright 🤷‍♀️🤣😍🤩🌺🌸
Hope you managed to find some sunshine over the long weekend. It’s been a bit grey and damp in Yorkshire. Not complaining, I made the most of a stunning week of sunshine and was quite happy to get a grey sky studio day 🤩💖 I know, lucky me ☺️ Hope you have a super week 🥰
‘Pink fizz’ 50cm square canvas (54 cm square framed size). Acrylic on stretched canvas.

They’re back! 😍😍😍 Filling my heart with joy 💖
First House Martin spotted flying above our garden on Tuesday and first swallows while out walking on Wednesday. The magic is back✨✨✨

Dropped this painting off today, ready for a month long exhibition in support of world curlew day 💖 It’s been a tricky one to photograph as however hard I try, the gold paint still looks tan brown. 🤷‍♀️🤣 Never mind, hopefully you get the idea. It’s wild and colourful and joyfully giddy, which is exactly how the returning curlews make me feel 😍💖 I adore sharing the moors with them (and with the meadow pippits and skylarks which arrived a couple of weeks later. It’s such a beautiful time of year, full of music and hope 🤩)

‘You scatter music through the sky’ 60cm square in deep edge canvas.

Today’s favourite marks 🤩 I’ve got a few different paintings on the go, all are feeling like a lot of fun 😍
And I’ve written a blog post about my art and creative practice. Actually, I wrote it before the art fair, in an attempt to articulate what my art is all about. Not sure how successful I was 😂, but if you would like an insight into the way my mind works (weirdly apparently 🤣), there’s a link to my blog in my bio.
Hope you all have a lovely week.
