Happy Yorkshire Day & St Wilfred’s Day here in Ripon!
💮 EY UP, THA LOT - IT’S YORKSHIRE DAY! 💮
And where better to mark it than Ripon - t’city at t’heart of Yorkshire, and arguably t’most Yorkshire place in all Yorkshire!
T’great Yorkshire flag is flying high above Ripon Town Hall, and we’ve plenty to be proud of beneath it.
We’ve got St Wilfrid’s ancient crypt, a Market Place that’s been trading for more than 800 years, a St Wilfrid’s procession wi’ roots going back to 1108, and a nightly Watch that’s been set since 886.
Other places might talk about tradition. We just get on wi’ it - every night, rain or shine!
And seeing as it’s St Wilfrid’s Day an’ all, we’re doing summat extra special tonight...
At 9pm, four Ripon Hornblowers will set t’Watch at t’Obelisk. Then, for t’first time ever, all four will turn to t’Mayor of Ripon and give their horns one almighty blast together, confirming that t’Watch is set and t’city is safe.
Four different horns. Four Ripon Hornblowers. One great Yorkshire racket!
White Rose flying high above t’Town Hall, St Wilfrid riding through t’str**ts, and horns echoing round t’Market Place. Tha’ll not find owt more Yorkshire than that.
Happy Yorkshire Day, folks. Get thysen down t’Market Place - it’ll be r**t grand!
p.s. we're no'appy about a lack o' White Rose emoji - tha used is a white flower on a red background. Best we could do!
p.p.s. tha' image at t'bottom may be from our dreams and not r**t accurate...
