The scene in The Buckland Reading Room just before our 30 or so guests arrived for our Party- Singy-Thingy! A great social evening was had, with eating, drinking and some singing thrown in. Now to turn our attention to arranging another concert, in November.

Sometimes, you hear a performance of something that changes your perception of the piece. That’s just happened with Randall Thompson’s Alleluia. I’ve always had a sneaking admiration for it because I thought it was so awful that it nearly came out the other side to be quite good! But on R3, just heard Polyphony sing it in a much more sensitive performance - a slightly slower tempo, and with more gentle dynamics - resisting the temptation to stray into the drunken rugby club school of singing. It’s actually quite an affecting piece. (But I bet even Polyphony were fed up with the word “Alleluia” by the end!)
