It's 1st September - so what better time to bring out the lovely Cornish tune 'Now the Summer is Over' written by Andy Davey.

IRISH SET DANCING IS BACK AT LOWENDER!

It’s been a few years since Irish Set Dancing took to the floor at Lowender, and we’re delighted to be bringing it back to Redruth this October.

Joining us are Kevin and Carol Monaghan of Setsmad Dancing, who have been dancing together for more than 25 years and share a passion for the distinctive traditions of Irish Set Dancing and, above all, bringing people together to dance.

And keeping our feet moving will be Cornish band Krelys, providing live music across the weekend.

There are three chances to set dance:

Saturday Irish Set Dance Workshop
Irish sets to kick off our Saturday Night Dance
Sunday Irish Set Dance Workshop

Whether you’ve been set dancing for years, haven’t danced for a while, or have never tried it before, you’ll be very welcome.

You don’t need to bring a partner, and the workshops are open to all levels.

We’ve put everything you need to know in one place, including times, venues and tickets

Come for the sets, stay for the festival!

🎶 Tuesday Tunesday 🎶

We're back at the Festival Interceltique de Lorient to hear another Cornish tune from the InterCeltic Music Camp, this time chosen by and her ensemble.

Today's tune is Boscastle Breakdown, a classic Cornish scoot (step) dance tune from North Cornwall.

The InterCeltic Music Camp brings together young musicians from Brittany, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, the Isle of Man, Asturias, Galicia and Cornwall to share music, traditions and friendships.

Representing Cornwall were our own Martha Woods and Finley bray music, both former members of Lowender's youth folk ensemble.

And just like last week's video, what you can't see is the incredible atmosphere on the Quai de Bretagne, with thousands gathered to celebrate Celtic music and culture. ❤️

Don't forget you can catch Martha and a whole host of other amazing Cornish artists at Cornwall Folk Festival this weekend!

MAKERS, CRAFTERS & CREATIVES – WE’VE STILL GOT SPACE!

We’ve had a brilliant response to our Lowender Craft Fair already, and we’re getting really excited about the fantastic mix of makers joining us in October!

But we’ve still got spaces available – and tables are just £20.

We’d love to hear from artists, makers, crafters, designers and creatives who’d like to join us. Jewellery, textiles, ceramics, prints, gifts, artwork, Cornish creations – or something completely different – we want a really brilliant mix!

Saturday 17 October
Redruth Community Centre
Tables just £20

The Craft Fair will be part of a packed Saturday at Lowender, with music, dance, activities and plenty more happening throughout the day.

Got something you’d like to share with our audience?

Lowender returns to Redruth from 15–18 October, bringing four days of Cornish music, dance, language and culture to the town.

We’re inviting businesses, organisations, festivals, events and more to advertise in this year’s Lowender programme.

Advertising starts at just £39, with quarter, third, half, full-page and double-page options available.

Whether you want to promote your business, organisation, an upcoming event or something else entirely, it’s a great way to support Lowender while reaching festival-goers from Cornwall and beyond.

Interested? Drop us a message or email [email protected] and we’ll send you the details.

Meur ras for supporting Lowender!

🎶 Tuesday Tunesday, Lorient Edition! 🎶

This week's Tuesday Tunesday comes to you from the Festival Interceltique de Lorient, where young musicians from Brittany, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, the Isle of Man, Asturias, Galicia and Cornwall spent a week living, learning and performing together as part of the InterCeltic Music Camp. The project brings together talented young musicians from across the Celtic nations to create music, share traditions and build lasting friendships.

Today's tune is an absolute banger: Anthony Payne, written by Andy Davey and named after the legendary 17th-century "Cornish Giant" from Stratton.

Representing Cornwall were our own Finley bray music and Martha Woods Music, both former members of Lowender's youth folk ensemble. We were also delighted to spot Freya Taylor, who joined us in Cornwall in 2024 through our youth exchange with the Fèis Rois Ceilidh Trail.

What you can't see in this video is the crowd: around 7,000 people packed onto the Quai de Bretagne (though you can certainly hear them! 😍)
