What a very blessed day.
I met up with my very good friend at Pennington Flash for a plein air painting session. We chose to work with our soft pastels and just enjoy experimenting and trying things out.
After lashings of sun cream we set up our easels under the shade of the trees. Thank goodness soft pastels are a very forgiving media in the heat 🥵. It was good that we both managed two rewarding studies during the day and more importantly just enjoyed the whole experience. 😃🎨😃

So nice to meet lots of lovely people too. Thank you for your interest and encouragement.

Ps The Flash is so inspirational for art work and photography. If you have never visited it, its worth an outing. So much wildlife, a lovely cafe and lots of pathways and walks.

Just lovely to have a little time today to develop last weeks woodland study.
Whilst in the woods a late burst of sun lit up the tree trunks beautifully. At the same time deep shadows cascaded onto the base of the trees, their roots and areas of the surrounding woodland floor. Its going to be an interesting study to develop. I hope you enjoy its journey. 😃🎨

Brrr it was cold! 🧊🧥❄️
But worth it 🎨🙂
My February "warm up" work continues..
Oil paint on "home made" peachy textured canvas covered mdf, (a delight to work on.)

Main aims to travel light and use a limited pallette of paint. To focus on shapes and local colour. Teasing out different tonal values and being aware of darks and lights. To develop the whole composition within a limited time frame (brrr❄️🧊). To try and capture the essence of cold winter woodland day, ensuring layers of background colours and wide variety shapes compliment the scene and allow the main players, namely the trees to stand out.

Its certainly been an interesting and enjoyable exercise, a good stepping stone for future work. 🎨🙂
