🎨⏱️ How many faces can I paint in an hour? ⏱️🎨
It's a question I'm asked quite a lot, so here's the answer...
For birthday parties and private events, I work on a maximum of 15 faces per hour.
That works out at around 4 minutes per person.
Now, you might think four minutes sounds like plenty of time... but here's what actually has to happen in those four minutes:
🪑 The child gets settled into the chair.
😊 We have a little chat about what design they'd like.
🎨 I reload my brushes and sponges with fresh face paint.
🖌️ The face paint is applied.
✨ Glitter is added to finish the design.
🪞 They get their mirror moment (one of my favourite parts!).
💖 They climb down feeling proud of their new look.
🧼 I clean my brushes, place my used sponges into a laundry bag ready to be washed at home, and get everything reset for the next child to hop into the chair.
At pay-per-face events, I also need to take payment during that same time.
People often ask if I can paint 20, 25 or even 30 faces in an hour...
The honest answer?
Yes, I probably could.
But something has to give.
The quality of the designs would be reduced, I'd have far less time to chat with each child and help them feel comfortable, the hygiene standards between clients would have to be rushed, and the whole experience would become about getting children in and out of the chair as quickly as possible.
That's not the service I want to provide.
Could I paint more faces if somebody requested it? Yes.
Would I? No.
If somebody wanted significantly more than 15 faces in an hour, I'd have to charge accordingly because I'd be putting myself under considerably more pressure and working at almost twice my normal pace.
For me, face painting is about so much more than the finished design. It's about helping children feel comfortable, chatting with them, making them smile, sharing that little mirror moment, and making sure every child leaves happy.
It's also about maintaining the high hygiene standards that every client deserves.
If you're looking for highly detailed, full-face artwork for Halloween, cosplay or another special event, that's something I also offer as dedicated in-salon appointments. Those are booked in 30-minute or 60-minute time slots, depending on the design you're looking for.
At parties and events, my goal is to give as many children as possible a beautiful, professional face paint without compromising on quality, hygiene or the overall experience.
Sometimes, slower really is better. 🧡
