4Bones Trombone Quartet

4Bones Trombone Quartet The 4Bones Trombone Quartet (Nigel, Stephanie, David and Stephen) are based near Reading, and can entertain you with music from across the ages and the genres.

We have classical and popular pieces from Renaissance and Baroque through to the present day. The trombone is a surprisingly versatile instrument, found in ensembles from church to jazz club and orchestras to brass bands. It is one of the oldest brass instruments, starting life in the 15th century. The modern trombone has changed to allow a richer more mellow tone to be produced. The 4bones trombo

ne quartet are based in Reading UK, and can entertain you with music from across the ages and the genres. We will include classical pieces from Handel, Bach & Bruckner and from modern composers like Gershwin and living composers. Our quartet has 3 tenor trombones and a bass trombone. The players are all talented amateur musicians who play in several local musical groups e.g. Trinity Concert Band, Saint Sebastian’s band, Woodley Concert Band and Aldworth Philharmonic Orchestra. Nigel Howard is also an experienced MD for band and choirs.

It's been quite a while since we have been able to meet and play together, hopefully there is now light at the end of the tunnel. One new discovery during International Trombone Week (last week) was the Slide Action Trombone Quartet. Here is some exciting and challenging playing by them!

One year to the day since our last concert in St Mary's, Shinfield. Here we were with Liz Lane as we premiered the beautiful Trombone Quartet version of Serenata.
Let's hope we can get back to playing together and in public before we forget how to do it! We are missing it.

Thank you to everyone who came to our lunchtime recital yesterday, and to St Mary's church and volunteers who made it possible - and such a good audience! We had a lovely time and look forward to visiting again in the future. Here we are pictured in the church with Dr. Liz Lane, the composer of the beautiful 'Serenata', which we premiered in its trombone quartet arrangement yesterday.

Nigel has adapted and recorded Dean Goffin's classic piece for trombone quartet - playing all the parts.
