The Sunflower - Ukraine's National Flower

The sunflower, which is Ukraine’s national flower is a symbol of peace, optimism and solidarity.

For this reason I've have decided to donate my profits from the sale of my sunflower card design 'Solar' throughout March to the Ukrainian Crisis Appeal run by the Red Cross.

The Red Cross is part of the Disasters Emergency Committee, with 15 member charities who are experts in humanitarian aid.

Donations will reach the people in urgent need, helping to provide food, first aid, clean water, shelter, warm clothing and medicine among other vital and important aid.

Remember this sunflower card can be used for so many different occasions, and can easily be personalised to use as 'just a note to say' or even 'just because'.

So great for those occasions when you suddenly realise you need a card.

Let's stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine!

Work In Progress: Maiko (Part 1)

As promised although a little later than planned. If you'd like to know more about how I created the Maiko that I gifted to my mum for her birthday, then read on.

1) First I created the Kimono elements by cutting the shapes from cardstock and then applying some lovely Japanese patterned paper.

2) Next I created both her neck and face shape (we all start out bald and so did she!)

3) Then all the pieces were layered and affixed together.

4) Then came the fiddly bit of creating her facial features (and don’t get me started on the nose, I always hated drawing noses!) The eyes were especially fiddly being so small, but I also wanted to create the illusion of eyeshadow. So I cut some pieces out of bright pink paper and set these just behind the eyes - very, very fiddly!.

5) Once all the facial features where created these were carefully arranged into position on the cut out head piece.

6) Her hair was created next and cut from black cardstock, I then added individual hair strands by hand embossing lines, to create texture. I didn't want these piece to be flat so certain elements where curved to create depth.

Once the Maiko was made, I moved onto the hair ornaments - which clearly was the fun part and the bit I couldn't wait to get too!
