JUST ANNOUNCED! John Kearns is coming to Reading!

Taskmaster alumni and double Edinburgh Comedy Award winner John Kearns brings his stand-up show, Tilting at Windmills, to Reading Town Hall on 8 June 2027.

Expect digressions, allusions to books he hasn’t read, the modern condition and, apparently, VAT. Plus decent craic with the right crowd.

Opening | Building Reading's New Studio Theatre

What does building a new theatre look like? Fifty years after The Hexagon first opened its doors, a new chapter is beginning.

In this opening episode of a new series of films, Artist in Residence Matt Hulse reflects on the theatre's construction in the 1970s while looking ahead to its future.

As The Hexagon prepares for its most significant transformation in decades, this film captures a moment of anticipation before work begins on a brand-new Studio Theatre, designed by Haworth Tompkins and delivered by Feltham Construction Ltd.

By Summer 2027, this space will become a vibrant new home for live performance, learning and community activity in the heart of Reading.

This is just the start of the story. More films documenting the build will follow.

Matt writes: "As a child, The Hexagon offered a kind of informal crèche, and vast playground; my dad and step mum worked all hours to help get the theatre up and running. Its unique architecture and ambience have recurred in my dreams ever since. It's a rare privilege and an emotional experience to be invited to create work here. Thank you for your trust in my process."
