It's the 1st of September! Time for our September monthly competition today where we are giving away a £20 voucher to one lucky winner to spend with their local Pop Up Play Village franchise! Very exciting!

This could be used to get £20 worth of tickets for play sessions or it could go towards one of our other services such as a party booking! The £20 voucher will be valid to use within 6 months and you must live within one of our franchise locations where we run events and services.

What are the benefits of attending one of our classes or booking our mobile role play village for a special event?

- As our village is mobile, we can take it anywhere where there is space both big or small. Due to the design of our village, we can set it up to the space that we are given. Sometimes, this is a small area for one or two play areas and other times, we are given a large hall to fill. We love the flexibility of our village.

- Due to being a mobile role play village, we can take part in so many community events as well as collaborate with local businesses. This provides a unique opportunity for children to play in so many different environments.

- As we are mobile, we have so many different role play areas that can be set up. When we run classes, we vary what we bring each time we visit and we offer a variety of different themes. For private events, our customers can choose which play areas they would like set up providing a completely unique village for every event that we run.

- Due to being mobile, we can pop up our play areas in homes! This can be through hiring a play area or it can be a full set up for a party including a garden party!

- I think the biggest benefit of being mobile is that we can personalise our village to suit the group of children that are coming to play. This can be by running a specific theme for a class or it can be personalised to target a specific area of learning for a class of children in a school. It is really special and we love that we can do this. Our village is always different and uniquely set up depending on where and who we are setting it up for.

Our Pop Up Play Village events have been designed to be suitable for babies through to around the age of 8 years old. This is a large age range especially considering how much learning and development takes place in the first 8 years of life so you may be wondering how does this work?

What is amazing about role play is that children can access it and learn through it at different stages of their development. For example, a one year old might be developing an understanding of simple sentences, developing speech and playing alongside others whilst a two year old might be imitating everyday actions and events and developing their language and communication skills in their play. These are very different skills that they are developing and they are doing this using the same role play resources.

Let’s take a look at the older age band, the children that are of school age that attend our play sessions during the school holidays and the children that we work with in schools, what are they learning through role play? Role play gives these children the chance to learn about the world around them, not only learning about different roles and responsibilities but also how to communicate, express ideas and form good relationships with others. It gives them the chance to be creative and imaginative which are such important skills to have. Through role play, they can strengthen their reading, writing and phonics skills. We provide many opportunities to develop these skills within our play areas and through role play, it provides children with a purpose and a reason to read and write. The same applies for developing maths and problem solving skills. For example, children can be pricing up how much their shopping is going to cost in the supermarket, measuring their building in the construction site or dividing food equally in the café, these are just a few examples and a great way to develop maths skills in a fun, purposeful way.

It is truly remarkable how much children learn through role play!

Role play doesn’t stop being valuable when children leave EYFS.

In fact, in Key Stage 1, role play can be an incredibly powerful way to bring learning to life.

Through purposeful, child led role play, children can develop:

📚 Reading and writing skills
🔢 Meaningful, real life maths
💡 Problem solving and critical thinking
❤️ Social and emotional skills
🎨 Creativity and imagination
