The ScrapStore at EKM The ScrapStore @ EKM saves safe, clean ‘scrap’ craft materials from landfill. suggested donation of £5. All money is raised for East Kent Mencap.

We welcome visitors to browse and put together a basket of craft materials for a min. We are open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10am to 2pm. Our address is:
Foresters Hall, Meeting Street, Ramsgate, CT11 9RT. The entrance to the ScrapStore is in the dead end of Meeting Street, please ring the doorbell at the big red doors. There will be a sign hung on the railings outside the doors. Please do not use the main East Kent Mencap entrance which has a window in the door.

What is The ScrapStore at East Kent Mencap?

A place where donated and surplus creative materials get a second life. A place to find fabric, wool, buttons, paper, ribbons, patterns and plenty of things you might not expect. A place to reduce, reuse and relove materials otherwise destined for landfill.

♻️ In 2025 alone, you helped save over 6 tonnes of waste!

You can fill a basket with whatever catches your eye for a minimum suggested donation of £5. Every donation supports East Kent Mencap and people with a learning disability across East Kent.

Fancy a rummage? 🩷 The ScrapStore is packed with donated and surplus materials just waiting to be turned into something new. From fabric and buttons to paper, wool, ribbons and plenty of things you might not have expected to find!

Fill a basket with your favourites for a minimum suggested donation of £5, and see what catches your eye. Every donation helps support East Kent Mencap and people with a learning disability across East Kent.

We’re open Wednesday-Saturday, 10am-2pm at Foresters Hall, Meeting St, Ramsgate, CT11 9RT.

Izzy popped in to show us the beautiful dress she made using fabric and a pattern she picked up from The ScrapStore just last week. Even more impressive, her sewing machine is currently out of action, so the whole dress was hand stitched! How amazing is that? 🩷

The wait is over... our brand new ScrapStore newsletter has arrived! 🎉

In our first edition, you'll find creative inspiration, customer makes, updates from The ScrapStore and more.

We're also excited to launch our Seasonal Creative Challenge.

This autumn, we're challenging you to create a wreath using reused or repurposed materials from The ScrapStore for the chance to win a £10 voucher.

Simply make your wreath, send us a photo by 15 November 2026, and our member volunteers at East Kent Mencap will choose the winner. Don't forget to tag us and use if you're sharing on social media. T&Cs apply.

We love seeing what people create with materials from The ScrapStore! 🩷

Here are a few recent you’ve shared with us.

Jenny shared one of the beautiful cardigans she’s been making from wool picked up at The ScrapStore.

Sara made this gorgeous beach bag using some Frida Kahlo fabric she found here a while ago - and even used a sewing machine from The ScrapStore to make it!

And Michelle popped in and found this funky cat fabric, which she turned into a brilliant new bag.

Thank you to everyone who takes the time to send us photos of your makes. We love seeing what happens to materials once they leave The ScrapStore.

Button Queen Kathy strikes again! 👑 Last week, Kathy spent the day sorting buttons and, on her way out, spotted a jar with some random colours in. She’s been tackling those this week!

New in at The ScrapStore! 🩷

Our volunteers have been busy making up fat quarter bundles - perfect for quilting, patchwork and creative projects.

We’ve also had a fantastic donation of faux fur samples in a huge range of colours and textures, perfect for costumes, accessories and crafts.

And for knitting enthusiasts, we have a vintage Knitmaster knitting machine in pristine condition, complete with a ribber, stand, instruction manuals and a bag of compatible accessories.

A huge thank you to our brilliant volunteers for keeping everything sorted and ready to discover.
