Reminder of a photography exhibition I held in the iconic York St Gallery, Ramsgate.
This just popped up on my Facebook memories feed & I am taking it as an answer to questions I have been asking myself recently about whether to re-incorporate the fetish/secret lives photography/interviews back into my current life/art practice. I must admit that part of the reason I have struggled (privately) over the last 4 years of owning the gallery is that my core art practice/research feels at odds with owning a community facing/serving art space. The painful dichotomy of heading up an all age accessible, bright, sunny, publicly acceptable space feeds my compulsion to be useful, serve & help others. Whereas as my work/research is informed, fed by a completely darker, hidden & starkly different world has weighed heavily on both my art & sense of self for the last 4 years. Not quite sure where or how it will work out for my art or the gallery but it sure did hit me hard this morning seeing this photo. It most definitely stirred the Beast, which was both thrilling & horrifying.
