Well what can I tell you about our special boy Jethro? 🐶
We got him to keep our older Labrador, Buddy fit and active 🏋️♂️
On the first day of bringing 12-week-old Jethro home he jumped the baby gates so we knew we had a handful. He would bounce around like Tigger 🐯
Once we hired a cottage with an enclosed garden (or so we thought). Whilst David was bathing naked in the outdoor hot tub Jethro decided to jump the wall with around 8ft drop into the next garden, beyond that was a steep drop. I was frantically trying to coax him back while he went exploring. An elderly lady came out and I don’t know if I was more scared of losing Jethro, or if she would catch an eyeful of David. Thankfully he jumped back to safety, such a good boy 🫣
He never liked being alone so often would always keep me company while I created my artwork 🎨
In his last weeks when we learned about his terminal cancer we took it in turns to sleep with him downstairs. We were fortunate we had already booked a week in a lovely cottage right by a Northumberland beach a month before he died. He’d lost a lot of weight and had slowed down, but he had an amazing time jogging along the beach and managed a few paddles in the sea, he’d lost his appetite for his dog food but would enjoy eating a fish. He loved watching the sunrise over the sea 🌅
We couldn’t let him go while he was still wagging his tail, but we got to the end of our street when he lay down and wouldn’t stand up. A neighbour carried him home to his favourite spot. He managed to move to the lawn for a few hours, Buddy our Lab and myself lay with him 💗
When Charlie arrived from Halo Vets both dogs were very calm, Jethro didn’t flinch when given his sedative and drifted peacefully to sleep cradled in my hands, Buddy stayed by his side and even had a paw on David’s hand 🫂
It’s been heartbreaking losing Jethro but we found great comfort seeing him go so peacefully and Charlie gave us the confidence to know the time was right to say goodbye 🕊️
