Fulneck Dramatic Society

Fulneck Dramatic Society Fulneck Dramatic Society (FDS) is a multi-award winning amateur theatre group based in Pudsey, West Yorkshire.

On this page we will be posting updates of our upcoming productions and news throughout the year so please give us a like and follow. Fulneck Dramatic Society (FDS) is a multi-award winning theatre group that is well known and respected within the area of Pudsey, West Yorkshire and beyond. Founded in 1924 under the name Fulneck Amateur Operatic Society, the group was known for their very successfu

l operettas and plays right up until 1951 when the group re-organised to become Fulneck Dramatic Society. FDS has continued throughout the decades to produce plays from all genres including comedies, farces, classics, tragedies, and the occasional pantomime just to name a few. We design and build all of our own sets and we are also the only amateur theatre society still in existence in West Leeds. FDS produce three plays per season (Autumn to late Spring) at our home on the hill, the Comenius Arts Centre, surrounded by the picturesque backdrop of the Tong Valley and the beautiful historical settlement of Fulneck. Performing either 'end on' or 'in the round', our little theatre is intimate and is a real hidden gem. Most of our members say that the Fulneck theatre has a really special atmosphere and love to return to perform again and again. We have a strong core of members and very supportive patrons who are extremely loyal and long serving to the society but new members and patrons, young or old, will be most welcome. Whether you fancy having a go on stage as a performer, enjoy the whirlwind of a backstage role, or even supporting our group through being a Fulneck patron, you are always needed so please get in touch. Some of our members that have started with us from a young age have gone on to train in theatre at a professional level. We pride ourselves on being a welcoming and inclusive group to people of all ages and experience in the theatre world and run open play readings rather than the pressures of auditions to everyone who wants to get involved. If you would like more information about the society or want to join us then please do drop us a message and we will be in touch.

PUBLIC BOOKING NOW OPEN!!

We are excited to announce our next production! Or perhaps we should say productions!

From September 7th to September 9th, we will be performing 'An Evening of Short Plays' which is a new format comprising of four short plays performed on the same evening as a collection.

The plays are;

Lets Be Devils by Nevil Malin
Originally a ‘Porch Play’ performed on the steps of the ruined Coventry Cathedral in August 1965. This comic story consists of seven episodes in which the Tempter provokes discord in a circular chain of everyday events.

The 15 Minute Hamlet By Tom Stoppard
A brilliantly condensed and wildly comic retelling of Shakespeare's Hamlet, packed with wit, rapid-fire dialogue and theatrical in-jokes as the entire tragedy is hilariously squeezed into just fifteen minutes.

Just Another Day By Arthur Lovegrove
It’s June’s wedding day, but while the bride remains cool, calm and completely unhurried, everyone around her is in a state of panic. As the clock ticks towards the ceremony, nerves rise, traditions are questioned and preparations descend into chaos.

The Psychopath By William Lindley
Brand new dark comedy, from the writer of 'The Suspicions of Ernest Strange'. Mrs Draper's corner shop is open for business, as she gossips in rhyme with her customers, who are all trying to avoid two people; Mr Clive, the streets resident nuisance, and The Garforth Ghoul, a shadowy phantom who is kidnapping people!

Where it all began, less than a year ago. A blue plaque appeared on Elmwood street, Savile Park, Halifax, just below the Big 6 pub.

Laura Annie Willson MBE. Millworker, Trade unionist, Suffragette (twice imprisoned), Company director, Engineer, House builder.

🌀We researched her.
She had said: "I went to prison a rebel - but I came out a regular terror..."
🌀We were inspired.
🌀We cast it.
🌀Alan got writing a play.
🌀On Saturday 20th June we start touring it.
