🇬🇧 Britain’s defence spending is under growing pressure. Washington is reportedly considering tougher measures to push the UK towards higher defence spending, while Russia has issued fresh warnings over Britain’s support for Ukraine. Meanwhile, the Government has delayed setting a firm date for reaching 3% of GDP on defence.

With threats increasing and the Armed Forces facing funding pressures, the big question is: Should Britain prioritise defence spending now — even if it means difficult cuts elsewhere?

👇 Have your say: Is national security worth the extra cost?

🇬🇧 London’s next political battle is officially taking shape. Sir James Cleverly is stepping down from the Conservative shadow cabinet to pursue the Tory nomination for London Mayor, taking aim at Sadiq Khan and promising a “champion” rather than an administrator.

With the 2028 election approaching, can Cleverly unite Conservative voters and give Labour a serious fight in the capital? Or does London need a completely different direction?

🚨 BREAKING: One migrant has died and 72 people have been rescued from a small boat attempting to reach the UK.

The boat, carrying more than 110 people, was being monitored near Gravelines, northern France, when those aboard called for help.

A rescue crew found one person requiring CPR, but the migrant was later pronounced dead. Three others were injured, with one requiring urgent medical treatment.

The tragedy comes after 494 migrants arrived in the UK on Thursday in seven boats, ending a 10-day period without a successful Channel crossing.

2026 total: 16,391 arrivals — down 43% on the same point last year.

A migrant has died and dozens more have been rescued after a boat carrying more than 110 people got into difficulty attempting to cross the Channel. The tragedy comes as crossings remain lower than last year, but hundreds have still arrived in recent days.

The human cost is undeniable — but so is the continuing challenge facing Britain and France over dangerous small-boat crossings. Should tougher action focus on enforcement, safer legal routes, or both?

Middlesbrough has become a stark test of whether tough talk will translate into action. After a week of tragedy, disorder and growing concern over crime, the question facing Andy Burnham is simple: will his government put public safety first?

The debate over early prisoner release is now impossible to ignore. Critics argue that overcrowded prisons should be solved by the state—not by shifting the risk onto communities already struggling with crime.

Do you think dangerous repeat offenders should serve longer sentences, even if that means expanding prison capacity? 👇🇬🇧

Could migrant camp numbers rise far beyond the figures being publicly quoted? Home Office officials reportedly told councillors at a private meeting that the number housed at RAF Barnham “could be a lot more” than the stated 1,250, while officials are also examining expansion at RAF Wethersfield.

With communities already raising concerns about capacity, local services and transparency, should ministers guarantee a maximum number before these sites go ahead? 🇬🇧👇

What do you think—fixed limit or open-ended capacity? Comment below.

A convicted Rochdale grooming gang ringleader remains in the UK after Pakistan refused to take him back. Shabir Ahmed, convicted of 30 child r**e offences, was released after serving 14 years and is now subject to strict monitoring while the Government explores further lawful options for deportation.

The case raises a difficult question about deportation, citizenship and accountability: if a foreign national convicted of serious crimes cannot be removed, what should happen next? 🇬🇧

Do you think the Government should be doing more to secure his deportation? Comment below. 👇

Welfare reform reportedly pushed into next year—while a new “mansion tax” could be coming this autumn. Andy Burnham’s government is facing pressure over the rising benefits bill, defence spending and the cost of running the state, while Chancellor John Healey signals a new top council-tax tier for properties worth more than £2 million. 🏠💷

Is delaying welfare reform the right decision—or is the Government kicking the can down the road? And would a mansion tax make the system fairer? Have your say below. 👇

UK drivers are feeling the squeeze again. Petrol has climbed to 161.6p per litre, its highest level since 2022, while diesel averages 183.4p. With millions expected on the roads this bank holiday, the timing couldn’t be worse. 🚗💷

Is this becoming an unaffordable cost of everyday life for British motorists—or should drivers shop around harder for cheaper forecourts? How much are you paying per litre where you live? 👇
