🐍 NEW ARRIVAL 🐍

Bullsnake (Pituophis catenifer sayi)

CB25 – Produced in the backend of the year.

Bullsnakes have a reputation for being a little grumpy at times! When threatened, they can put on quite a display by hissing loudly, flattening their heads, and vibrating their tails to appear more intimidating. Despite this reputation, they are generally harmless and often settle into excellent captive snakes with regular handling.

This particular youngster is an absolute gem 💎. Calm, inquisitive, and confident, it’s already showing a fantastic temperament and would make an excellent addition for anyone looking for a larger colubrid species.

🌍 Origin & Habitat
Bullsnakes are native to North America, ranging throughout the central United States and into parts of Canada and northern Mexico. They inhabit prairies, grasslands, scrublands, and open woodland areas where they spend much of their time exploring burrows and hunting rodents.

📏 Adult Size
6–8ft, with some exceptional specimens exceeding this.

🏠 Husbandry Requirements
• Enclosure: Minimum 4ft x 2ft x 2ft for adults (larger preferred)
• Hot Spot: 30–32°C
• Cool End: 22–25°C
• Humidity: 40–60%
• Substrate: Aspen, lignocel, or similar burrowing substrate
• Diet: Appropriately sized rodents
• UVB: Beneficial but not essential
• Lifespan: 15–25+ years with proper care

An impressive, intelligent species that offers all the character of a large snake without the size of a giant constrictor.

🐍 San Diego Gopher Snake (Pituophis catenifer annectens) 🐍

If you’re looking for an underrated snake species, the Gopher Snake deserves your attention. Generally calm and easy to handle once established, they make a fantastic alternative to the more commonly recommended “new keeper” snakes. Their active nature means you’re far more likely to see them exploring their enclosure, making them a rewarding species for both new and experienced keepers.

We now have a stunning San Diego Gopher Snake available in store!

🌎 Origin: Southern California, USA

📏 Adult Size: 4–6 feet

🌡️ Husbandry:
• Daytime temperatures: 26–30°C (warm end 31–33°C)
• Night temperatures: 20–24°C
• Humidity: 40–60%
• Enclosure: Minimum 4ft x 2ft x 2ft for adults
• Diet: Appropriately sized mice or rats
• Life Span: 15–20+ years with proper care

Gopher Snakes are hardy, inquisitive snakes with beautiful blotched patterns and a strong feeding response. Their combination of manageable care requirements, attractive appearance, and confident personality makes them an excellent choice for new keepers looking for something different from the usual starter species, as well as experienced keepers wanting an active and engaging colubrid.

🦎 PICTUS GECKO 🦎

One of the highlights from our weekend pickups has to be this stunning CB26 Banded Pictus Gecko!

The Banded Pictus Gecko (Paroedura gracilis) is a fascinating species native to the dry forests and rocky regions of western Madagascar. Known for their striking dark bands, large expressive eyes, and slender build, these geckos are a fantastic choice for enthusiasts looking to keep something a little different from the more commonly seen species.

Primarily nocturnal, Banded Pictus Geckos spend their evenings exploring, hunting insects, and climbing through their enclosure. While they are not generally considered a handling species, they are active, hardy, and rewarding to observe, making them a great display animal for both experienced keepers and those looking to expand their collection.

🏠 Care Requirements:
• Warm basking area of 30-32°C
• Ambient temperatures around 24-28°C
• Moderate humidity with regular misting
• Plenty of hides, cork bark, and climbing opportunities
• Diet of appropriately sized live insects dusted with calcium and vitamins

Their manageable size, unique appearance, and relatively straightforward care requirements have made them increasingly popular within the reptile hobby.

📍 This stunning specimen arrived with us over the weekend and is now available in store.

Cyclura cornuta (Rhino Iguana)🦏🦎

Meet the latest addition to Wrights Reptiles – we’ve temporarily named him Bruce! 😍

Bruce has been settling in amazingly well and has already made it clear that blueberries and bananas are among his favourite treats! 🍌🫐

The Rhinoceros Iguana is one of the most impressive and sought-after iguana species in the world. Native to the Caribbean island of Hispaniola (the Dominican Republic and Haiti), these incredible reptiles are primarily ground-dwelling animals that spend much of their time basking amongst rocky scrubland, dry forests and coastal habitats.

Their name comes from the distinctive horn-like projections that develop on the snout, particularly in males, giving them a resemblance to a rhinoceros. These unique “horns” make them one of the most recognisable lizard species on the planet.

Sadly, Rhinoceros Iguanas are classified as endangered in the wild due to habitat destruction, predation and illegal collection. Conservation efforts are helping wild populations, but they remain a species that requires careful protection and responsible captive management.

In the UK, Rhinoceros Iguanas are regulated under CITES legislation and must be accompanied by the correct paperwork. They are also required to be permanently identified with a microchip, helping ensure full traceability and legal ownership throughout their lives.

With their incredible prehistoric appearance, intelligence and huge personalities, it’s easy to see why these giants are so admired by reptile enthusiasts around the world.

Welcome to the shop, Bruce! 🦏💚

📢 REPTILE BOARDING PRICE UPDATE 📢

Unfortunately, despite our best efforts to keep costs down across the board, we have had to make the difficult decision to increase our reptile boarding prices.

Over the last year, the cost of substrates, décor, heating equipment, food, electricity, and general operating expenses has continued to rise significantly. We have absorbed as much of these increases as possible, but to continue providing the high standard of care that your animals deserve, a price adjustment is now necessary.

We have worked hard to ensure our new prices remain fair and competitive, and we are still one of the most affordable reptile boarding options in the local area.

The new boarding prices take effect immediately. However, any existing bookings already confirmed with us will remain at the previous rates, so if you already have a booking in place, there’s no need to worry.

We would like to thank all of our customers for their continued support and understanding. Your trust means a great deal to us, and we look forward to continuing to care for your reptiles while you’re away.

Please see our updated boarding price list.

Thank you,
The Wright’s Reptiles Team 🐍🦎
