The Playhouse has been in the business of amateur dramatics since 1949. Transformed into a theatre just after the war by Preston Drama Club with the help of many generous patrons, it has provided local drama and dance groups with modern facilities to produce a variety of shows, plays and performances over the years. The Playhouse is open to any group of performers or organization who wish to hire

its stage, auditorium, conference and rehearsal rooms, or bar for any occasion. It is clear that the effort of a great many people is essential in keeping the Playhouse running year after year. And without their hard work, ideas and enthusiasm the show, quite literally, would not go on. In return, these volunteers make great friends, are involved in amazing entertainment and have a great deal of fun. The Playhouse and the drama groups would like you to come and work with us, and learn anything from props to producing, from set design to sound mixing. What makes Columbo so irresistible?

It isn't car chases or dramatic speeches. It's watching a murderer slowly realise they've underestimated the man in the crumpled raincoat.

Prescription: Murder, the play that introduced Lt Columbo, comes to Preston Playhouse from 23rd to 26th September.

You'll know who committed the crime from the beginning. The real thrill is watching Columbo quietly dismantle every assumption until the truth has nowhere left to hide.

Preston Drama Club are looking to cast their first production for the new season. Prescription: Murder is the play which brought Lt Columbo to life long before the TV series and films. A calculating doctor up against the sharp but shabby detective is a "howcatchem" style detective play.

There are roles up for taking and on Wednesday 24th June and Wednesday 1st July they are holding casting and reading events. If you are looking to tread the boards why not come to Preston Playhouse on one of those evenings at 7.30pm and try out. All are welcome. The play runs from 23rd to 26th September and rehearsals are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays

Ten days. That's less time than some people spend avoiding their inbox.

The countdown to 9 to 5 The Musical is underway and these new rehearsal photos are giving a glimpse of the fun heading for the stage.

This much-loved musical takes a workplace nightmare and turns it into an uplifting celebration of friendship, determination and refusing to let anyone else write your story.

At the centre are Violet, Judy and Doralee, three women who discover that being underestimated can sometimes become a superpower.

Wrapped around it all is a glorious score by Dolly Parton. Funny, moving, uplifting and packed with unforgettable tunes, it's one of those soundtracks that stays with you long after the curtain comes down.

The Hall Players present None The Wiser, a deliciously tangled comedy where a gang of women disguised as nuns find their carefully constructed world threatened by the arrival of two unexpected guests. The problem? Nobody is quite who they claim to be.
