We're very proud to announce that Museum of the Year finalist, Chapter Arts in Cardiff, is hosting the Feed project.

You can find the Feeding Chair, along with Sally Sutherland's Feeding Futures Floor Flag in their wonderful caffi bar until the end of August. Come and visit us to feed your baby or child and share your ideas about how Chapter can further support feeding people and families.

We are collaborating with The Birth Partner Project, a Cardiff-based charity which provides volunteer birth partners to support women seeking sanctuary who would otherwise face pregnancy, birth and early motherhood alone, to think about the café can contribute to the public health of Chapter's local communities and become a more welcoming shared space that meets the needs of parents and carers with young children.

We're also planning some events to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week in August. More details to follow....

🎉 We have two FREE creative workshops coming up in starting tomorrow!
Wed 5th March, 10.30 – 12.30
Wed 19th March, 10.30 – 12.30

Milk and Blankets is a free, hands-on art project taking place across Birmingham. It explores the act of feeding babies and children, the emotions, techniques, preconceptions and struggles associated with it and the unsolicited advice that can be received. Working with artists Joanne Masding and Amelia Hawk, parents at The Mamahood Space are invited to take part in two fun and relaxing workshops, using clay, scent and tastes to make objects and infusions that will come to life during a summer picnic celebration.

Workshop 1: Clay making workshop with Joanne Masding (Wed 5th March)

This workshop is an invitation to make cups and small pots together, as we celebrate all forms of baby feeding in public. Looking at examples of infant feeding and the female form in sculpture, and bringing our own expert knowledge of what it takes to nourish a baby, we will create cups out of clay that will become a collaborative artwork. You will be taught how to make a pot using the pinching technique, and all materials will be provided.

Workshop 2: Play with your food, have a cuppa with Amelia Hawk (Wed 19th March)

This workshop is an invitation to explore comfort and nutrition in the humble mug of tea. We will be making infused milks and teas for big and small hands, exploring our mental and physical needs from the warmth of a hot drink. Flavour combinations will touch upon lactation, nutrition and mood. The workshops will be loose and free-flowing, with plenty of space for play. All materials provided.

OPEN CALL for a new exhibition at Woodend Gallery, Scarborough! 📢

Organised by as part of the Feed project.

NURTURE focuses on showing the works of mothers/caregivers who have yet to have the opportunity to display work due to their caregiving duties. The exhibition is open to artists whose work isn’t necessarily related to issues surrounding motherhood/caregiving. It is just an opportunity to give artists a space to display their work.

Deadline: January 4th 5PM 2025

We would like to say a huge THANK YOU to , and all the other women, parents and children who came to to help us create and launch the Feeding Futures of Leeds Manifesto.

The Manifesto calls for a more inclusive, healthy and caring Leeds City Centre, where parents can safely feed and look after their children. The ten points of the Manifesto have also been incorporated into a Floor Flag by designer Sally Sutherland. Unlike traditional flags flown high on poles, a Floor Flag lies on the ground, creating an inviting space for gathering, thinking, talking and connecting. Sally also produced muslin squares featuring the Floor Flag design, which were given out during the launch event in November.

You can sit, read and spend time on the Floor Flag in Leeds Art Gallery’s Art Space. We hope that the Manifesto will be a starting point for making practical changes within the city centre.

A big thank you too to and especially .angie, who have given so much support to the Feed project. The gallery already does a huge amount to support and welcome families and now also hosts a monthly Bosom Buddies drop-in session to support people who are breast/chestfeeding older children.

⬆️ You can find a link in our bio to the video of the Manifesto being read out during the launch.

Thanks to for the gorgeous photos and to for making it all look beautiful.

On 13th November 2024, Leeds Art Gallery hosted the launch of The Feeding Futures of Leeds Manifesto.

The Manifesto calls for a more inclusive, healthy and caring Leeds City Centre, where parents can safely feed and look after their children. It was created by artist Sally Sutherland in collaboration with Bosom Buddies breastfeeding support group, Shine Project young women’s group and visitors to Leeds Art Gallery. Sally also incorporated the ten Manifesto points into a floor flag. Unlike traditional flags flown high on poles, a floor flag lies on the ground, creating an inviting space for gathering, thinking, talking and connecting.

This video documents the launch of the Manifesto at Leeds Art Gallery, where project participants, along with local councillors and health professionals read the 10 Manifesto points aloud.

We hope that the points in this Manifesto can be implemented to make Leeds City Centre a place that welcomes feeding people and families.

Join us for food, conversation and creative activities as we launch the Feeding Futures of Leeds Manifesto.

Wednesday 13th Nov, 12 – 2pm
Leeds Art Gallery
Free, lunch provided

The Manifesto calls for a more inclusive, healthy and caring Leeds City Centre, where parents can safely feed and look after their children. It was created through a series of creative workshops at Leeds Art Gallery, where members of Bosom Buddies breastfeeding peer support group and young women from the South Leeds-based Shine Project, alongside members of the public, shared their practical ideas for how the city centre could be made more welcoming for families.

The ten points of the Manifesto have been incorporated into a floor flag by designer Sally Sutherland. Unlike traditional flags flown high on poles, a floor flag lies on the ground, creating an inviting space for gathering, thinking, talking, and connecting. The Floor Flag will provide a focal point for the launch and subsequently remain in Leeds Art Gallery, inspiring change towards safer, healthier, and more inclusive urban environments.

We hope that you can join us at this informal event, where we will present the manifesto and, over lunch, invite you to discuss your own experiences of and aspirations for Leeds’s public realm.

👶Children are, of course, welcome!

Book your place here: https://feeding-futures-of-leeds.eventbrite.co.uk/ (link in bio)

We look forward to seeing you there!
