Funny is a shield and a sword. Growing up, I knew I wasn't going to be the "dolly bird," so I decided to be the force of nature. Jennifer and I treated comedy like a playground where we could be grotesque, loud, and entirely unladylike. The Vicar of Dibley worked because she wasn't a saint; she was a woman who loved God, but loved a Mars bar just as much. That appetite—for food, for life, for laughter—is what connects.

Friendship is the fuel. The chemistry with Jennifer wasn't acted; it was lived. We gave women permission to be gross. To fall over. To be idiots. There is a freedom in letting go of the corset of "niceness" and just being a bit of a monster.

Confidence is a practice. You have to own the space. Whether I am playing a teenager or a queen, I do it with a wink that says, "I know this is ridiculous, and I love it."
