Booktalkbooktalkbook

Booktalkbooktalkbook Jenny and Burton are novelists stuck within an event they didn’t create. A parody of awkward live author readings, twisting around numerous sideplots.

Neary is “Superbly funny” Guardian; Moor is “Brilliant and bonkers” Idler.

BookTalkBookTalkBook is coming back to The Hen & Chickens Theatre on Sunday 5th July for another show.
It's a parody of an author event which starts awkwardly, then digresses madly for 50 minutes of books, talks, talks about books and books about talks.
You kind of have to see it to get it.
And then see it again to really get it.
The brilliant Joanna Neary and I have performed it at Shakespeare & Company in Paris, The Bookseller Crow on the Hill and tons of other places since the first show in 2018.
Bonus! After a brief interval we'll also present a few short Works-in-Progress bits too.

At 15.00 on Sunday 7th April 2024, the The Hen & Chickens Theatre Bar, Highbury is hosting a VERY SERIOUS literary event where two IMPORTANT authors will read from their novels, discuss their PRESTIGIOUS careers and sign copies of their HIGHLY-REGARDED works.
Either that or it will be a silly one-act performance piece from Joanna Neary and Ben Moor, combining awkwardness, card tricks and pettiness about how to do the washing up.
The latter, then.
This is a great chance to see BookTalkBookTalkBook before a show in Paris at Shakespeare & Company.
AND BONUS! After a short interval Jo and Ben are going to do brief previews of NEW MATERIAL - it's the first live outing of a bit of his new show All Things Now New Will One Day Be Ruins...

Upcoming Literary Event Alert for Spring!
Jenny and Burton are pleased to be heading out to discuss their work again, with Tim asking some important questions.
These will all be as serious as the SOLD OUT shows at last year's Edinburgh Fringe, at The Constitutional in Farsley, and at the International Anthony Burgess Foundation, where the very conventional event was somehow Shortlisted for Best Comedy at the 2021 Greater Manchester Fringe Festival.
Really, it's just two authors and a moderator talking about books.
Really and truly.

After their SOLD OUT run at at The Pleasance Courtyard during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Jenny and Burton (and Tim) are delighted to bring their very serious, not at all absurdly funny, author event to The Constitutional, Farsley on Friday 16th September 2022 as part of a whole evening of literature.
Copies of their extremely important novels will be on sale afterwards (we hope).

Jenny and Burton have booked a couple of talks to talk books in July.
They (and moderator Tim Timminey) are going to be booktalking at The Hen and Chickens Pub Theatre in London's literary Highbury district on Saturday 16th July at 18.30 (Note early start time).
And then the very highbrow event has been booked for the Listening Post Stage at the booky and talky Latitude Festival, Henham Park Suffolk for the evening of Thursday 21st July.
Expect discussion of unfamiliar novels and an enquiry into washing up techniques.
BookTalkBookTalkBook was somehow Shortlisted for Best Comedy at the 2021 Greater Manchester Fringe Festival, even though, as we've constantly affirmed, it is an entirely normal author event with two serious and real writers talking about their pretty dry and serious novels in utmost seriousness.

The UK’s world leading comedy industry is on the brink of collapse and runs the risk of being forgotten by government funding for the arts.
