It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news that our much-loved member, Abby Daniels, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, at home with her family by her side.
Many of you may have seen Abby perform with The Portsmouth Players over the years, even if you never had the privilege of knowing her personally. What audiences saw was an incredibly talented performer and choreographer with a radiant smile and a love for the stage. What we were lucky enough to know was an extraordinary young woman whose courage, kindness, determination and generosity touched everyone around her.
For the past six years, Abby faced an unimaginably difficult journey with remarkable strength. Even after receiving the devastating news that her illness was terminal, she continued to embrace every opportunity to perform, create and inspire others. Earlier this year, she fulfilled one of her greatest wishes by producing a fundraising concert in support of Sarcoma UK. It was an unforgettable achievement and one that reflected everything Abby stood for. She also wrote a book which was published just before she passed. Truly a lady of many talents.
The Portsmouth Players became so much more than a theatre company to Abby. It was a place where she found friendship, confidence, creativity and belonging. She gave so much to our society, both on and off the stage, and she became a cherished part of our family. Her warmth, humour and unwavering positivity will be remembered by all who had the privilege of sharing the stage, rehearsal room or simply a conversation with her.
Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Abby's parents, Trish and Keith, and with all of her family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
Abby leaves behind a legacy far greater than the performances she gave. She showed us what resilience looks like, how to face life's greatest challenges with grace, and how one person can make such a lasting difference to so many lives.
Thank you, Abby, for the laughter, the friendship, the memories and the inspiration. You will always be part of The Portsmouth Players family, and your light will continue to shine through every production, every friendship and every person whose life you touched.
We will share links if anyone wishes to donate to Sarcoma UK, and where her book can be purchased in the coming days.
Rest peacefully, Abby. You will never be forgotten.
