It's nearly time for The Emsworth Arts Trail! 🖌️⛵🎨

This is a great opportunity to view and buy from local artists, enjoy organic refreshments including light lunches and locally-made cakes at our a pop-up café and buy a variety of fruit and vegetable garden plants and garden sundries, at our plant sale in the marquee.

Here at Tuppenny Barn we are delighted to feature the work of five local artists whose skills encompass painting, photography, printmaking, mixed media and textiles:

We’re so looking forward to our next event - an exhibition of unique contemporary craft from members of the Society of Designer Craftsmen.
Masters in the magic of transforming simple materials into superb contemporary craft works, our members will be revealing their collective skill at the Bankside Gallery in London this summer Bankside Gallery]

Combining innovative approaches with supreme craftsmanship, over 100 of our members will be showcasing original work in textiles, ceramics, glass, wood, paper, stone, base and precious metals.
Established in 1887 by Walter Crane, with William Morris an early President, we are proud to have as members some of the finest and respected designer makers of the day. We continues to promote and support the work of creative thinkers, designers and makers who innovate through the exploration of materials and skills in their own fields.
Transformations will exemplify the abundance of talent the Society represents today. It will also feature a selection of supreme designer craft works created by Honorary Fellows of the Society along with the stories behind them.
The exhibition will offer a rare opportunity to view and purchase a wide range of exceptional and unique craft pieces.
Transformations runs from Wed 15th June to Sun 26th June, 11am to 6pm every day. Admission is free and all works are for sale. Commissions can also be taken.

Anita Bell will be showing her beautiful stitched paper pieces in our ‘Designer Craft at Christmas’ exhibition at the RBSA Gallery in Birmingham, from 2-13 November.
Techniques and Process:
Each work is a one-off piece, created
using a variety of papers, often recycled or
handmade, painted or dyed and then torn
and layered and embellished with stitch.
Anita works by making quick sketches and
watercolour studies to try to capture the atmosphere of a fleeting moment in time
and reflect the constantly changing light, depicting the essence of something that is
caught in an instant, yet in reality remains elusive and ever-changing. Using thin thread
as a medium, these ideas are transferred onto paper and details of an imaginary
landscape are drawn out using dense lines of stitch that are overlaid like paint, to build up depths of colour.
