Next Thursday - 3rd September - The Bullfrog Blues Club will host the return of the ever popular Claude Bourbon, one of the finest finger picking guitarists around! Claude's performed all over the world and has crafted an unbelievable fusion of styles. His roots are in the blues of the Mississippi Delta, but he's inspired by music and song from all around the world.
Born in France in the early 60’s, Claude grew up in Switzerland. He started to play guitar at the age of 15, after hearing the sounds of an instrumental version of ‘House of the Rising Sun’ seeping from a neighbour’s garage. Claude studied classical guitar for a period, but soon realised that his feeling was more for improvisation than written music.
Influences from Ritchie Blackmore, J.J Cale, Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks, Paco de Lucía and even J.S. Bach can be heard. American blues; Gypsy rhythms, Eastern European melodies, and touches of flamenco; Claude weaves them all into a performance of blues, rock and jazz that defy labels, all delivered with flawless timing and astonishing technique. Thursday 6th August sees Kirris Riviere and the Delta du Bruit band making their first appearance at The Bullfrog Blues Club in Southsea.
Emerging from Bristol's vibrant blues scene, after releasing a debut single in 2021 Kirris Riviere and the Delta du Bruit band quickly gained acclaim for their distinctive soulful sound and catchy songwriting, and have built a solid reputation for electrifying live performances.
At the January Blues Festival in London, Mark Cotgrove praised Kirris as “a huge star, but the world doesn’t know it yet.”
Soon after, the band were recognised as one of the top 20 emerging blues bands in the UK by the UK Blues Federation at the UK Blues Rhythm and Rock Festival.
Fronted by Kirris Riviere -who is also a top class actor - the band's performances combine theatrical stagecraft, powerful vocals, and skilled songwriting. Diverse musical influences blend to make a compelling sound and combined with their infectious energy their live shows are breathtaking, bringing back the sound of the old southside Chicago blues joints.
The band appeared at Glastonbury Festival in 2023 and a sold-out album launch quickly followed. The album included eight songs co-written by Kirris and the band's keyboard player Evan Newman, and also songs by Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon and Curtis Mayfield. The album also featured a guest appearance from an old friend of The Bullfrog, Jon Amor.
In late 2024 Kirris and the band toured Europe, playing venues in Belgium, France, Luxembourg. and Holland, whilst their UK tour in 2025 included many festivals and top blues clubs.
Kirris was recently nominated in two categories in the U.K Blues Awards as "Best Emerging Artist" and "Best Contemporary Artist"
As an actor Kirris' impressive list of TV and film credits include appearances in "Nylon", "Red 2", "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead, the Netflix series "The Sandman" and many more.
