🧵✨ Day Two in Brighton! ✨🧵

It’s the second day of the Sew Happy Quilters Show at Brighton Racecourse, and Alexsis is back on the Seeded stand — and, naturally, she’s still busy sewing yet MORE vintage buttons onto cards! 😂🪡

Because you can never take too many buttons to a quilt show… right?! 😍

We’ve brought along lots of our fabulous vintage buttons, plus a gorgeous selection of quilting and dressmaking fabrics to tempt you.

If you’re heading to the show today, make sure you come over, say hello and have a good rummage through the Seeded stand. 💕🌸

And yes… there’s a very good chance Alexsis will still be sewing buttons onto cards when you arrive! 😂

She’s brought along a fabulous selection of Seeded goodies, including lots of gorgeous dressmaking and quilting fabrics, haberdashery and, of course, plenty of buttons! 💕🧵

Meanwhile, back in Southsea, Josephine is holding the fort in store today, so Seeded is OPEN as usual from 10am–2pm. 💙

If you’re heading to the Quilt Show, make sure you come and say hello to Alexsis — and if you’re in Southsea, pop in and see Josephine!

Two places to get your Seeded fix this Saturday! 😂🧵

A new fabric delivery has landed in the store, but which is your favourite?

Sammy’s personal favourite is the cats in hats of course!

🧙‍♀️✨ And here it is… Ellie’s second witch’s hat for our Challenge! ✨🧙‍♀️

If you saw Ellie’s first gorgeous autumnal hat, you’ll know that these were most definitely not what she originally had planned when she chose her fat quarters – but we are VERY glad that inspiration took her in this direction!

For hat number two, Ellie has gone brighter with a fabulous combination of pinks, oranges and golden yellows, piecing all four fat quarters together to create the wonderfully patchwork cone and brim. And just look underneath that brim too! 😍

Once again, Ellie has used the remaining fabric to make those brilliant little embellishments – a mixture of Suffolk puff/yo-yo and Kanzashi-style flowers, finished off with some rather lovely buttons and a bit of sparkle. 🌸✨

This is exactly what we hoped the Summer Fat Quarter Challenge would encourage: choosing four fabrics and then seeing where your imagination takes you. Sometimes the best projects are the ones you never intended to make in the first place!

And we have to say, Ellie may have wondered whether she would have chosen different colours had she known she was making witch’s hats… but we wouldn’t change these at all. 💗🧡💛 They’re wonderfully quirky, cheerful and just a little bit magical.

Thank you so much, Ellie, for not one but TWO fabulous final entries – and for throwing yourself into the challenge and trying something completely new.

We think whoever eventually gets to wear this is going to be the best-dressed little witch around! 🧙‍♀️✨

🧙‍♀️🍂 Now THIS is a fabulous entry from Ellie! 🍂🧙‍♀️

Coming in just before the deadline, this is the first of two hats Ellie has made for her final Summer Fat Quarter Challenge projects – and we absolutely love where her imagination has taken her!

When Ellie chose these four fat quarters, she had no real plan for them. Maybe a cushion? Perhaps a big bow? She knew she wanted to have a go at making some Kanzashi flowers… and then, thanks to what she describes as a “work-related side quest”, inspiration struck.

A witch’s hat! 🧙‍♀️

The four fat quarters have been pieced together beautifully in those gorgeous autumnal purples, oranges and browns, with the remaining scraps put to very good use creating the fabulous flowers around the brim. Ellie has combined Suffolk puffs/yo-yos with Kanzashi-style flowers, finished with buttons and beads – just look at those details! 😍

We also love that this challenge has resulted in Ellie revisiting the sort of maths she remembers doing at school and swearing she’d never need again! 😂 The pattern came with adult and child sizes, neither of which fits Ellie, so the next challenge is working out an in-between size – with a little assistance from a technical-drawing friend!

Ellie says:

“Thank you for running the Summer FQ Challenge, it has been really good to do. I found myself trying things I haven’t before.”

And we couldn’t ask for more than that. ❤️ That has been one of our favourite things about this challenge – seeing where four fat quarters can take you and watching people experiment with techniques and ideas they might never otherwise have tried.

This one is child-sized and may even end up being raffled for charity – although we think Ellie might need to make that perfectly sized version for herself first!

Thank you, Ellie – Hat No.1 is officially in! 👏

Now… shall we see the second one? 👀🧙‍♀️

💙☕ A very special entry from Gillian… and one with a wonderful story behind it! ☕💙

Gillian chose our Summer in Provence fat quarters to create something we haven’t seen in the challenge before – a patchwork and quilted postcard!

The idea began when Gillian spotted a display of handmade textile postcards in Romsey, where she was singing with the Romsey Voices Choir. She’d never come across them before, but when our Summer Fat Quarter Challenge came along, she knew exactly what she wanted to make.

And this isn’t just any postcard. It’s going to a very good friend in the North East whom Gillian has known for nearly 60 years, since they first met at primary school. Her friend Jill was even Gillian’s Chief Bridesmaid! ❤️

We absolutely love the little teacup and teapot appliqués, but there’s an especially lovely detail in the background. Gillian thought the blue fabric looked as though bubbles of steam were rising from the teapot, so she added French knots to bring them to life. Even better, the embroidery thread she used was left over from smocking the pinafore bibs worn by her two youngest bridesmaids over 40 years ago. 🥹

Gillian hadn’t done any patchwork or quilting for around 30 years, but between seeing the exhibition in Romsey and taking part in our challenge, she was inspired to pick it up again.

She told us:

*“Your encouraging Challenge gave me that final stimulation to get patching and quilting again! I am really grateful to you!”*

And that, for us, is exactly what this challenge has been about. ❤️ Inspiring someone to revisit a craft after 30 years – and creating something filled with almost 60 years of friendship and memories in the process – is rather wonderful.

Thank you so much, Gillian, for joining in and for sharing the story behind your beautiful postcard with us. We hope Jill loves receiving it as much as we’ve loved seeing it! 💙📮

🐠🐢 Another fabulous entry has swum into Seeded! 🌊🪸

This gorgeous boxy zipped bag has been made by Karen for our Fat Quarter Challenge – and what a brilliant way to show off four coordinating fabrics!

Karen has gone for a wonderful under-the-sea theme, mixing turtles, fish, coral and shells across the different panels. And make sure you swipe to see inside – we love that shell-print lining! 🐚

It’s such a clever little make too – roomy, practical and perfect as a project bag, toiletry bag or for keeping all those bits and bobs together.

Every new entry seems to give us another idea for what can be made from four fat quarters. We may need to run this challenge again! 😂✂️

Thank you Karen – we absolutely love it! 💙
