At People and Stories we often draw inspiration from letters of the past. Letters become our history, handed from one generation to the next. Today is 'World Letter Writing Day': an opportunity to write to someone you know, tell them about your Summer, and ask them to write back, and keep safe for our future selves and generations to discover.

Another of our touring venues is Christ Church Portsdown, where we take up residence in the beautifully updated halls. In 1860, land was acquired for new forts on Portsdown Hill, and in response to concerns surrounding the spiritual care of the soldiers to be stationed there, Christ Church Portsdown was born. The church has hosted many Army services and burials over the years, most famously on the eve of D-Day, and has served the communities of North Portsmouth for over 150 years.

We made our first visit to The Spring Arts Centre in Havant last year, and look forward to returning again in the future. Originally built as the Town Hall, the Gothic Revival building opened in 1870 to serve the local population, which was thriving on the back of a growing fishing industry. In recent years, the building has served Havant residents as an arts and heritage centre, with a wide programme of cultural work.

Here's another of our wonderful community venues- Milton Village Hall- home to the Milton Village Community Association. Over the last decade, the building has had two extensions, including a new larger hall and a purpose built coffee shop. The site offers facilities for numerous residents and community organisations, and the Pure Ground coffee shop has become one of the city's most popular destinations.

It was an honour to visit Bughtrig House last week, the Berwickshire home of Admiral Sir Bertram Ramsay, Lady Margaret Ramsay, and their family. A huge congratulations to Will and Natasha Ramsay on their stunning refurbishment of the Estate, including the new Admiral Ramsay Museum. Thanks too to the family for their support in exploring the artifacts and papers of the man who would become the leading Naval mastermind of WWII. We can't wait to bring his incredible story to life in The Quite Hero, coming to Southeast Hampshire in the Spring of 2027.

We're proud of creativity and culture here in Southeast Hampshire, and at People and Stories we like to craft new theatre in and for our region. We don't rely on buying shows in, or licensing scripts from elsewhere- we make original work, creating new experiences for our communities, while celebrating the culture of the region that we live.

We're delighted that Fort Widley's control bunker might be opened up to wider visitors, and ask our followers to take part in this survey about the elements that would help bring it to life for them. Fort Widley is home to People and Stories, and numerous other community-focused organisations and businesses. Rethinking our historic local sites is an important part of how we contribute to Portsmouth and Southeast Hampshire being an attractive and sustainable place to live, work, and play.
