The government has overturned the decision to refuse planning permission for an incinerator on Portland Port. But this should never have happened since they are still "considering the role waste incinerators will play".

Our thoughts are with all the children starting back at school and education this week πŸ™

We have to remember what a priviledge education is, as Afghan girls have been denied the right to education under the Taliban goverment. The Afghan plight may not be on the news anymore but do not forget them in your hearts ❀️

Opera Circus UK organised the most amazing collaboration to headline at Let Music Unite ❀️ They only practiced together in the day but they were still incredible.

We may not have had the sunset we wished for but everyone was in complete awe of the fire show and music!

Thankyou so much Opera Circus and Ana Defuego 😊

Let Music Unite is predominantly about being a positive free event for the community but there are some important causes and messages that need our attention and support.

Akhtar Mohammad finished the event talking about the importance of music and how the Talibhan have destroyed musical instruments. When asked about the event he stated:

"Music is a universal language. The benefits of music include improved emotional expression, cross-cultural connections, and cognitive stimulation. It may be a potent tool for creation and communication that can also uplift, soothe, and inspire. A key component of the human experience and personal development, music also aids in memory retention, lowers stress, and enhances wellbeing.

Afghanistan is well known for its music but the current government of Afghan Taliban has declared that they have seized and destroyed more than 21000 musical instruments in the past one year.
Through encouraging empathy, elevating voices for justice, and disseminating messages of unity, music can be utilised to combat racism and hate. It encourages understanding, crosses cultural barriers, and motivates people to work together for constructive change."

Now that Let Music Unite is out of the way, I've been able to focus on the next challenge.

In two days Akhtar and myself will begin our coastal challenge walk raising money for The Veterans Hub Weymouth & Portland CIC πŸ™

We are proud to be raising money for such an incredible organisation. Akhtar has first hand experience as he was a translator for troops in Afghanistan and has felt so welcomed and supported by the organisation that he wanted to give back ❀️

We have been humbled by the donations we have received as we know times are tough at the moment. Even if you can't donate, you can help us by sharing so we can make as much money for the veterans hub as possible πŸ™

Thankyou to our wonderful Kurdish performers who are very much at the heart of Let Music Unite ❀️

Baravan Mustafa was part of our Portland Community and now has moved away so we're incredibly grateful he returned to perform at Let Music Unite 😊

Mustafa Mamu lives locally with his family. When asked about why he performs at Let Music Unite he stated:

I love the Let Music Unite team. They are good people who work from the heart. The event gives me hope, love and loyalty for all oppressed. I am a Syrian kurd from the city of Afrin, which is still occupied by Turkish authorities. Those who displaced and killed people, the city of Afrin is burning silently and nobody talks about it.

Wow....thankyou everyone who turned out for Let Music Unite despite the rain! It was such a magical and beautiful day ❀️...
