Groupeze Music

Groupeze Music Groupeze Music, as an idea, came about during a lunchtime outing with my friend, and her son to Port Talbot in 1996.

We opened to retail musical instruments and accessories in the indoor market area of the Aberavon Shopping Centre. A single unit soon became a double, and in no time at all we relocated to a shop on the outskirts of the town. The teaching side of the business flourished, and so did the shop with us shifting more Mackie products than sense, but I could see the impact that the internet was going to

have on retail and decided it was a battle I didn't want to fight, and so closed the shop, to focus on the teaching and studio part of the business. These areas of the business are flourishing and in response to demand, we have recently launched an online shop, which can be found on our website. We now have a fully equipped rehearsal room, our 'Jam Hub' and a high quality recording studio, both available for hire to develop and capture your sound. We are also incredibly proud of our music school. Our very experienced and skilled teachers are of the highest quality and all still gigging musicians. They don't just talk the talk, they walk the walk! Why not visit our website, or give us a call and see what we got? We're the one stop shop for your musical needs!

I've been watching a lot of videos about people identifying as certain things.....and people disputing it, getting beaten up, and bullied?
At the risk of adding myself to that situation..... I AM going to say something that should have been said a long time ago!
Jazz rides are crashes!
It don't mean a thing if you ain't got that ping!
Bring it on....you haters!!!!!!!

I am so lucky that I have amassed a great selection of cymbals......... I have been watching a lot of drum videos recently talking about justifying the extra cost of the elite drum kits?
I will be testing this myself on my next album, as myself and John Coslett intend to use various drum kits to see the quality, and how quick we can get tones.......
But, a massive part of drum costs, is the amount of endorsee's YOU ARE PAYING FOR!
Three get free kits, but they put that cost on yours!!!!!!!
I know how much drummers are getting paid at pro level gigs, so I am not begrudging working drummers freebies....they still need all the help they can get!
But there are loads of under the radar drum manufacturers out there, making great drums, and not charging you for the one they gave away free! DO SOME RESEARCH!
Play something that sounds great.....not that has a "NAME!"

For those who read this yesterday....on the long term plan....I do intend to remix "We Are Spectacular".
I negotiated the mix price for the album, with Gary, during "Lock Down!"
No one was working! People were desperate!
Gary put in way more hours than he should of on it, for what he was paid!
But....as he even admits.......it could be better!
The strings are real! They do not take your head off, for what they should sound like.......but I gave him 24 wav files? That is mammoth work to sort!
The strings on "Lexicon of Love 2" were mixed by...."I think? Abbey Road? And they sent him stereo wavs.
He did more than what he was paid for.......but.....eventually.....it will sound as it should have!
My friendship with Gary was very special......for awhile!

I've done it again! There is something wrong with me!
Downstairs is supposed to be "at a price, bargain!"
Alesis Monitor ones would have eaten it!
Introducing the best monitors Mackie ever made!
Now......in the down stairs studio!
Not even open! And I'm improving it!
Something wrong with me!
And I have to recalibrate the room again now!
Not only will the room be seriously affordable!
It is flat!

It is hard, when you have a riff in your head....that is not a stomp.....but you want to write a stomp!

That slow down at the end was not edited....it was played live......Rhys Morgan is quite incredible!

Those "Ha ha ha ha's!" were from working in "Room 101", and the bizarre tunes we played!

A song written about an old friend of mine called David........or more commonly known as "Grip!" I never found out why? We are estrange now, but I hope he's ...

So? Acoustic cloud? These holes are mammoth to drill! I would not advise anyone to be a geek!

It is hard to beat this tune for clever time signatures......But..."Shadows of her Mind" on album 2....."Rule 91" is absolutely bonkers!

I will get around to mixing that......at the same time I start recording the third one...."Monster!"

I haven't stopped......I just took some time out for a whimper"!

I also intend remixing this album....."We Are Spectacular!".......those strings are real....and very disappointing!

Starting back soon!

Third single from the album. I'm really proud of this one! It's like something you'd walk out of the cinema listening to as the credits roll! And really musi...

OK..... So....I'm going to start a debate! Recording snares is totally different.....but live ? In your local? Gigging? Who cares? I looked at this Premier Project One......the following day I was sent an offer around £765?
I don't sleep very well due to health reasons......so around 3 am......I send a grumpy email saying......"I tried to buy an immaculate new one....(in the day).......and it was £300? Immaculate? I'll give you £300, and consider yourself lucky!" I know..... constant nightmares, since getting sober, makes you grumpy!
In the morning......he'd accepted it? On second read......it was 6.5".....not 8"? They were all 8" in my memory?....... And on a big screen.....it was dirty as f**k! Now I do it? £20 item....just throw it on ebay.......BUT....at £900+? Clean the bas^^rd?
So I pulled out.....and he was very gracious! NOT! But...... drumkits are fetching peanuts? Snare drums? They are asking stupid money! Once you have the one you love? STOP! and maybe......as they are not selling them? They will become more realistic on value? The snare drum on my Designer was supposedly £1500 new? The kit is so much money? You would not do a pub gig with it! If someone "borrows" it for a year, and sends it back covered in gaffa gunk? It is gutting! I would not be bothered on my Remo? Sometimes, if things are so valuable.....you cannot take them into a local pub? In case of scratches, or spillages? What is the point in having that? Unless you are recording? And if you are recording in a church hall with a few 57s....no idea about phase at all? What is the point in having the best sounding drum kit going? So? Grab yourself a bargain shell pack....it is amazing what is out there.......find a snare you like.....and stick totally to that! And do not give these stupid prices for snares, and hope the market drops to what it should be? A 40 year old drum......covered in sh*t.......is never worth a grand! C'mon world? Let's get real? I did pay £500 for a Black beauty....and I have convinced myself I got a bargain?
I have a 13" Carrera......3".....which I would play all day, every day, live.....cost me £90! Drummers? Debate? Rest of you...walk on by! Nothing to see here.......

Not that I am anywhere near important in the slightest!
But studio monitors are a massive part of recording!
I have Focals, with a Mackie bin, upstairs in the studio.... ( I just bought the Audient Mini Oria.....not installed yet!) The obligatory pair of NS10s....... a pair of avantone grot boxes....Everywhere else I have Alesis Monitor ones.......passive and active....they are still great on a budget! I think I have 4 pairs? But......if I was buying new.....I think I'd check out the IK multimedia......people are raving! Just installed the arc system downstairs and I'm very impressed. With a SSL Sigma going into upstairs.......I am moving very much towards stem mixing.......which works great in atmos....... I'd love an IK atmos system...... as well! Of course! I'm not giving anything up! But.....well worth a look I think people? And if you are on a budget.....Alesis Monitor Ones....... Wait for a good price and good condition......people knock them about massively! The dome is just a dust cover.....but they look POOH dented! The tweeters dented is different thing....but you can suck them back into shape.....gently!!!!! With a HENRY! I hope this helps? But I am not an expert!!!!!

So.....big thank you to my son's for helping me with this? Thank god for power tools with the current state of this hand....I'm putting myself back 2/3 weeks with this latest trumped up idea.....and if you knew the basics of soundproofing? It is virtually pointless! But.....I'll go for 5% improvement at this moment in time? Watch to see if this works? Completely making it up at the moment.......
