Sharp skills and creativity were displayed in the second year of the ‘BSO Music-Making Competition’, sponsored by Lark Music 🎶

We’re delighted to announce the three winners of the competition:

🎵 Charlie Ashworth-Jerem, a student from London, wins the 18-24 category for his saxophone performance of Eugène Bozza’s Pulcinella.

🎵 A. Brandon Roku Ali wins the 25-39 category: the account manager from Bournemouth performed his own piano composition, Walking on Water.

🎵 Jen Townsend - Flute , a part-time midwife, student and carer from York, wins the 40+ category for her performance of Edwin Roxburgh’s Stardrift, for solo flute.

Thirty finalists were selected from over 100 entries, before the three winners were confirmed; the winning performances were described by judges as “confident”, “compelling” and “virtuosic”.

A huge thank you and well done to everyone who took the time to share their music-making, the team appreciated each and every entry… keep creating!

Are your pupils coming to one of our Key Stage 4 concerts this week? The events are designed to bring the curriculum to life for pupils studying GCSE and BTEC qualifications, and we can’t wait to meet this year’s cohort. We’ll be in Eastleigh [Tues], Yeovil [Wed], Newquay [Thurs], and Exeter [Fri], this week.

The tour continues – to Poole [9 Nov], Wi******er [10 Nov], Gloucester [11 Nov], Swindon [12 Nov], Southampton [13 Nov], and Bristol [4 Feb]. Events are bookable via local Music Education Hubs.

Grammy-award winning musician Thomas Adès is our Celebrated Composer this year🌟✨

Adès has been described by The Times as one of today’s ‘most accomplished overall musicians’ and holds a host of accolades to his name.

We’re very excited to be showcasing his music this season, and later this month we’ll be performing his piece Märchentänze, a work which is full of sonic inventiveness and tonal colour 🎨
