Join the countrywide, gentle, positive approach to climate activism with Plymouth canary craftivists at Seaton's Tower on Plymouth Hoe between 11am and 3pm this Sunday 29th August.
There are free handprinted fabric patterns for anyone that wants to make a canary to send to their MP to let them know that a diverse community is concerned about the climate crisis and want faster, greater action to be taken to tackle it.
Put on something yellow, bring along your sewing stuff and join in.

Most people value nature. If every single person who did took three small practical steps to help the nature around them imagine what a difference it could make. A small pond from a sunken old washing up bowl, a pile of leaves in the corner of a yard for insects to make their home, leaving wild plants to flower and grow. They cost nothing yet all help wildlife. I made this little film for passers by. We can all do something. Please share this if you can.

I'm trying to alter the way I look at "weeds" on the pavements. Having spent my life thinking they were something to be removed it is a struggle to imagine them afresh and see their beauty and adaptability. Being trampled on, sprayed and uprooted they still manage to germinate, grow, flower and set seed and if we get down to look closely they are really beautiful. So I've made a little award for when I spot a particuarly special one. I've been very inspired by what the are doing.

Insects are always very much on my mind. They always feel like the underdogs - not always cute or cuddly but endlessly fascinating. I've tried to give them a voice by typing what they might say to us onto old tissue paper on which I've printed some linocuts that I've made of insects.
The next step is to find ways for them to get into the world without annoying anyone and in an eco way. Just posted some off to a school teacher in Northern Ireland who wanted some for her students.

Moved to create this letter to Plymouth City Council, illustrated with bamboo pen and watercolour, urging them to welcome nature into the city and specifically about wildflower verges. Awaiting a reply.

Came away from Drawn to the Valley 's drawing day feeling calm and restored by the tranquility of the Garden House. Very little accomplished in the way of drawing but so enjoyed the absorption of looking at leaves for four hours until cat stopped play.

If you're at Royal William Yard this week it would be lovely to see you at our show 'Here and Now' celebrating our time at Ocean Studios, Royal William Yard. Plymouth. Five of us graduates were awarded studios spaces by Plymouth University and we've got together to show what we've been doing. It's open noon to 5pm from tomorrow (Wednesday) till Sunday and everyone's welcome for some drinks and nibbles tomorrow evening 6-8pm. Also I've just noticed that there is an pink elephant living in one of the stone floor slabs at Ocean Studios, Royal William Yard. Plymouth!
