August: One Year Down… and the Murders continue!

So August has come and gone and autumn beckons. August is usually a quieter month for murders, but we certainly haven't been taking it easy!

August 2nd was a very special day for us as Cheeky Reaper celebrated its first birthday. And what a way to celebrate it. 🎂

Blessed with glorious weather, we filled the garden with cast members, suppliers, guests - and, most importantly, people who have become good friends over the past year.

There was food, laughter, a few drinks and a rather wonderful reminder of just how lucky we are to have such an amazing group of people around us.

We genuinely couldn’t have got to where we are today without their support, enthusiasm and friendship. So, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you. ❤️

Then, once the barbecue embers had faded and the hangovers had finally disappeared, it was time to get back to work. Or, as Dolly so perfectly put it:

“Tumble outta bed and I stumble to the kitchen / Pour myself a cup of ambition…” 🎼

And there was plenty to be ambitious about.

August saw us return to some of our favourite venues, including The Thatched House, while also taking our murders to exciting new heights, including Marco Pierre White's fabulous penthouse restaurant, towering above Plymouth Hoe.

Behind the scenes, there’s been plenty going on too. We’ve been planning some rather special Halloween installations and meeting some amazing potential new clients - so there may be some exciting news to come very soon.

Our first year may be over, but there’s absolutely no sign of Cheeky Reaper slowing down.

The bodies keep falling, the bookings keep coming… and we’re already plotting what happens next. 🔪🩸

🤠 MEANWHILE, IN BONEWOOD…

It’s still a short while before the good people of Bonewood will gather to celebrate the arrival of the railroad.

No murder. No suspects. No Sheriff Underwood desperately trying to work out who did what. Yet!

But that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty going on behind the scenes…

The railroad man is already throwing his weight around and making enemies faster than tracks can be laid.

Deputy Cletus is doing his very best to uphold the law (although his thoughts keep wandering towards the town’s rather lovely schoolmistress).

The schoolmistress, meanwhile, seems to have a few thoughts of her own. 🤔

And somewhere nearby, Minnie the local madam is doing what Minnie does best…

Listening. 👂

Because in Bonewood, you can be pretty sure that whatever you say will eventually find its way to Minnie.

So, while everyone is getting ready for the big celebration, what might our characters actually be up to?

Is the railroad man making another enemy?

Is Cletus finding another excuse to visit the schoolhouse?

Is Minnie collecting another juicy little secret?

Or is someone already planning something that could derail Bonewood’s big moment?

We don’t know. We’re not saying. This is the story before the story. The prequel if you like.

Because when Cheeky Reaper rides into town, that’s when the real trouble will begin. 🔫

In the radiant first-class dining saloon, every table gleams beneath the warm shimmer of crystal chandeliers.

Waiters glide between courses, laughter ripples across the room, and the string quartet plays a waltz fit for royalty.

Then the illusion shatters. Behind the grandeur and grace, a body is discovered - and a killer must be unmasked before they strike again aboard the most luxurious vessel ever built.

Silverware clinks amid whispers of scandal, fortunes clash in shadowed rivalries, and figures slip through Art Deco corridors.

As the ocean swells and champagne flows, trust erodes faster than the night deepens.

In this floating palace of the elite, one secret could unravel everything before the night is over.

🎉 ONE YEAR OF CHEEKY REAPER! 🎉

Can you believe it? Cheeky Reaper is officially one year old! 🥳

What an incredible first year it’s been… and it’s all thanks to you.

💀 Nearly 3,000 people have joined us to solve a murder.
🎭 We’ve doubled our cast of amazingly talented actors to keep up with demand.
🏆 We’ve been nominated for three awards, reached the finals in two, and proudly brought one winner’s trophy home.

From the very beginning, we’ve been overwhelmed by the support we’ve received.

A huge thank you to every audience member who has laughed, gasped and accused the wrong suspect. To our wonderful venues and their brilliant staff for welcoming us.

To our incredible actors, whose talent, passion and dedication bring every story to life. And to the fantastic local suppliers who help create the little details that make a Cheeky Reaper evening so special – from our personalised table stationery and banners to those all-important murder weapons!

We’re incredibly proud of everything we’ve achieved in just 12 months… but we’re even more excited about what’s coming next.

Year Two is already shaping up to be bigger and better, with brand-new mysteries, some truly jaw-dropping venues, and plenty more twists, turns and suspicious characters waiting to meet you.

As murder season gets underway, we can’t wait to welcome both familiar faces and first-time detectives.

Here’s to another year of mystery, mayhem… and making sure the victim doesn’t stay dead for too long. 😉

🔎 FROM SUZANNE’S CASEBOOK: JULY 🖊️

“If July proved anything, it’s that the most memorable murder mysteries are often all about the setting…

This month, we had the privilege of performing at the spectacular Carnglaze Caverns in Cornwall. While temperatures outside climbed to a very respectable 25°C, we descended into the cool, candlelit caverns, where Pirates, Treasure and Deceit unfolded in one of the most atmospheric venues we’ve ever visited.

With delicious food from One Pan, guests who fully embraced the pirate theme in spectacular costumes, and the caverns providing the perfect backdrop, it was everything we could have hoped for. We can’t wait to return and create a little more mystery… and perhaps a little more mayhem!

But that wasn’t the only excitement July had in store.

Behind the scenes, we squeezed in a professional photoshoot with some of our incredible cast. More than 50 costume changes in just three hours made for a wonderfully hectic afternoon filled with wigs, waistcoats, pirates, detectives and some very speedy quick changes.

A huge thank you to MJC Photography for capturing it all so brilliantly. The photographs are stunning, and they’ll soon be making an appearance…

We’re keeping the reason under wraps for just a little while longer, but trust us - it’s worth the wait.
