After nearly 25 years of volunteering, our beloved Gill is retiring!

Gill has volunteered with the Ocean Engagement team since 2001, contributing around 15,000 hours of engagement with our visitors to the National Marine Aquarium. Whether its been answering questions about our animals, helping visitors find our Ranger-led activities or just being a friendly face around the Aquarium, Gill has been an inspiration to all of us here at the Ocean Conservation Trust. She's been a guiding light to many of our staff and volunteers both past and present, taking time to show new starters the ropes and never being afraid to give honest feedback! She was also featured in our BBC2 documentary 'Secrets of the Aquarium'.

Gill is also known as their resident Eagle Ray whisperer, correctly recognising behaviour that the rays show when they are about to give birth, this has been very useful to the Aquarium and BIAZA, as the Eagle Rays are part of a Europe-wide breeding programme for conservation.

We're looking forward to welcoming Gill back to the NMA as an Aquarium friend in the future and hearing about all of her adventures in the next chapter of her life. From all of us here at the Ocean Conservation Trust, thank you!
