Mercedes Romero Flamenco, Salsa & More

Since graduating from the Conservatorio de Danza in Alicante with a diploma in Classical Ballet, Spanish Dance and Flamenco, Mercedes has taught dance and performed professionally for over 25 years. She has appeared in several artistic productions at many renowned theatres and dance venues in Spain. Her passion and commitment to Flamenco has also taken her around the world, choreographing and perf

orming with a number of Spanish dance companies in countries such as Mexico, Italy and France. First settling in the UK in 1998 based in Plymouth, she delivered Flamenco and Salsa classes in several schools and colleges across the South West of England. She was an established teacher at The Barbican Theatre in Plymouth where she formed her own Flamenco group “Flamenco Vivo”. Dancers were accompanied by live Flamenco guitar and percussion and the group performed at numerous venues, community arts projects, corporate events and private functions all over Devon and Cornwall. As principal Salsa teacher at the now legendary Club Fandango in Plymouth, her profile within the Latin dance scene in the early 2000’s was heightened by a number of media appearances on local and national TV and radio. In 2006 Mercedes returned to Spain to start a family however dance was never far away and she taught dance classes in some prestigious health clubs in and around Marbella. She returned to Plymouth in 2016 where she has been teaching and performing Flamenco and Salsa based at the Plymouth School of Creative Arts. She manages her Flamenco Group delivering performances across the South West of England. She’s actively involved collaborating with Open Circle / Fuse diverse dance from the Barbican Theatre, teaching, choreographing & performing in diverse performance projects such as: Put on Your Red Shoes, Fierce, Civic. Other community projects and organisations Mercedes has been involved with teaching and performing include: Plymouth Dance, Plymouth Respect Festival, The Elder Tree, Callington MayFest, Freedom Fest, St Matthias Church, South Asian Society at Plymouth.
