We are the largest and best-attended regional producing theatre in the UK. There are two distinctive performance spaces; The Lyric and The Drum, and a new workshop and performance space, The Lab, which opened in October 2013. The range of work presented and produced is incredibly extensive, including regular collaborations with leading theatre companies in the UK and beyond. The programme includes

major touring drama, musical productions, leading opera and dance. The Theatre Royal Plymouth also produces and presents new plays and has built a national reputation for the quality of its programme and innovative work in The Drum, winning the prestigious Peter Brook award. New musicals and larger scale drama are co-produced for The Lyric, often with commercial or subsidised partners and many productions tour nationally or transfer to the West End. The Theatre Royal Plymouth provides an exceptional Creative Learning programme with a focus on engaging young and disadvantaged communities. The award-winning theatre Production and Learning centre at TR2 in Cattedown, contains unrivalled set, costume, prop-making and rehearsal facilities.

This week is Learning Disability Week, and the theme this year is centred around ensuring those with learning disabilities are being seen, heard and valued.

To celebrate this wonderful week of awareness, we are shining a spotlight on Young Company Create, designed especially for young people with disabilities who feel they would benefit from additional support.

Working with professional theatre practitioners, young people will expand their knowledge, learn rehearsal techniques and develop and refine performance skills, while growing in confidence through shared experiences, making new friends and creating work together.

"It was the best song I've ever sung in any show!"

Miquel Brown originated the legendary role of Miss Sherman and Gemma Wardle played Serena Katz in the iconic 1995 European premiere of FAME, which started right here in Plymouth.

Their legacy lives on in our revival, honouring the raw, gritty spirit of 1980s New York.

This Sunday, we are welcoming some fantastic artists and workshop practitioners into our Front of House spaces as part of Stories Without Borders, our celebration of diversity in the Plymouth community.

We’ll have:
- Live music by Otto and the Mutapa Calling, Real Steel and the Ukrainian Singers of Plymouth
- Workshops with Tribal Soul Arts CIC in drumming, Keren Riches in jewellery making and Above Bounds in puppetry
- Performance excerpts from Farewell Jamaica followed by a Q&A
- Welcome Refugee Cornwall's Multi Story exhibition

All this, plus Devon and Cornwall Refugee Support's installation on the first floor and music all afternoon by DJ Jozzy.

No booking required, our doors will be open for anyone to join us from midday.
