MUSIC MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Plymouth Music Zone is an award winning music charity that believes passionately in the power of music to reach out & help transform the lives of some of the most disadvantaged children, young people & vulnerable adults across Plymouth and beyond...PMZ also provides training for adults. We passionately believe in the power of music to make a positive difference to people

’s lives. We achieve this by working with highly skilled Music Leaders who deliver practical interactive music workshops that are vibrant, engaging, inspiring and fun. The majority of our work is targeted working with other partner organisations using music to develop skills and improve the quality of life of some of the most vulnerable groups of children and adults. But we also offer open access weekly community and after school activities that anyone can join...so please do! Contact us for more details about our current programme and what you or someone you know might want to get involved in.

We wanted to share the brilliant work that 'Moving Sounds' created over these past few months! The group took one of their favourite songs (Katrina & the Waves's 'Walking on Sunshine) and wrote their own lyrics to the tune!

In the video you can hear our participants singing and playing a range of instruments alongside PMZ Music Programme Director, Karl, who leads the weekly workshops!

We hope you enjoy listening to this Moving Sounds performance!

We had the chance to celebrate with Plymouth Highbury Trust on their 70th birthday last week! Everyone here at PMZ wants to congratulate everyone on their incredible work over these years and say thank you for letting us be a part of it!

If you scroll through the photos of the very cute alpacas, you'll find a photo of our Music Programme Director Karl performing with a few participants from the Music Makers group that attend PMZ every Tuesday!

Congratulations to everyone involved in making Plymouth Highbury Trust what it is- the work you do is not only brilliant but it's so important and we look forward to celebrating the next big birthday with you!

This week we welcomed Friends and Families back for two music making workshops; one with the Make Sense group and the other with the Adventure Club.

It was great to see familiar faces alongside new people who got to experience PMZ for the first time. We made lots of music together focusing on trying out new and different instruments from hand percussion, boomwhackers, the marimba and guitars.

We hope that everyone who attended had a lot of fun - we really enjoyed working with you all and we hope we can make some music together again soon!

Last week our 'Moving Sounds' group performed for families and friends to celebrate everything they have created this term with their music leader Karl.

The group performed several songs including 'Moving Sounds Sunshine' - a play on Katrina and the Waves' 'Walking on Sunshine' with the group's own lyrics.

This group is an inclusive music making session for adults and as you can see from the photos, full of lots of joy and creativity.

It was wonderful to hear what the group had been working so hard on throughout the term! Congratulations to everyone who performed and we're already looking forward to September.

It's been a joy to welcome our Sensory Sounds group every week over the past (school) year! From singing our hearts out, to drumming like all kinds of animals to trying out lots of instruments, it's been a wonderful time making music together.

Below are photos of some of our participants from the last session of the term as we're now on our Summer break!

We want to say a big thank you to all our participants and families for filling the room with laughter, music and support for everyone - we wouldn't have it any other way.

Here's to more Sensory Sounds music making in September! 😎

Our music leader Josie joined Busy Bees for their graduation to perform one more song together last week. A few of the children joined Josie for a photo in the lovely garden in-between mouthfuls of ice cream.

We want to thank all the participants, the Busy Bees team and the parents for supporting the work we do. We're very grateful for the feedback we have received and it's been yet another successful year working together.

Lastly, we want to wish all the graduates moving on to "big" school in September the best of luck, we hope you continue to make music and sing your favourite songs!

'Thank you for the beautiful songs, Josie!' said by 4 year old participant from Busy Bees.

Our PMZ music leader Josie led the final Early Years music making sessions of the term with both the Foundation and Buzz groups at Busy Bees Childcare this week and it was emotional! One child said 'I'll miss you so much when I go to big school!' The Foundation class gifted Josie some beautiful flowers (see picture) and chocolates!

Luckily, Josie will get to work with the participants one more time before they move to their Primary schools, as the group will perform a song together at their Graduation in mid July!

We have loved working with Busy Bees for several years now and it's always wonderful seeing the enthusiasm for music all the participants and staff bring to our sessions. We can't wait to make more music together in September!

Hey Everyone!

Due to the amber warnings issued over the next couple of days, we have decided to cancel all of our remaining music workshops this week. As we work with many vulnerable people in our community, we want to do everything in our power to keep people safe in this heatwave!

We will miss singing and making music with all our participants this week but look forward to being back with everyone next week!

If you do need to get hold of anyone here at PMZ, you can either message us here or email us at [email protected]!

We hope you all take care of yourselves in this heat and stay cool (in all the ways!)
