Save 'The Cooperage' Plymouth

Save 'The Cooperage' Plymouth We want The Cooperage back. A beautiful, accessible space for music, arts and fun...What d'ya reckon? 'Save The Cooperage' is exactly what it says. SHOW THE LOVE!

A group to save the Cooperage. Many of us wasted our mispent youth in the old building. After trying to sell it for years it is being auctioned (estimated £300,000). The plans are to make this in to a multi-purpose accessible arts centre. Which is a fancy way of saying we're going to have lots of fabulous art, theatre / rehearsal space, live music, cafe and office space. Of course all in keeping w

ith the age of the building (1800-1850). The building will be maintained and run by local businesses for the local community. But we need to save the building first. The location of the building offers both day time and night time activitiy - but to begin with we can only do one of these! We have decided that the day time events which are most up to date in our current plans will be the first to be established. But do not fear! - The Cooperage as it once was known as an excellent platform for bands will return. It might just take some time (for financial reasons and council objections). We aim to be as honest and open with our customers as possible so if you have a comment about this please do let us know. We would like you to upload your memories of the Cooperage; photos, stories, videos, live music...you name it. In return we will tell you the plans and what is happening to the building. Any local businesses/professionals/people of Plymouth who think they can offer support or advice in making this project happen are welcomed to get in contact with either Ems Coombes or Heather Siewruk.

Dear new and old lovers of the Cooperage, much progression has happened. As you may or may not know, Mr Man has applied for planning permission for The Cooperage to be demolished and, in its place, a bloody huge building to contain students and shops.

Well on Thursday a meeting was held by the council and the decision was refused. Thank goodness. It was refused for many reasons and many historical organisations have chirped in to say that it is a very important building.

Unfortunately it is not listed at all, not even the back doors, which i wrongly assumed, and i do not think that it is important enough for listed status (says them!)

So we can but wait and see. Ill do some poking around,

Watch this space.

Well girls and boys, young and old the chase is over. Today, the 25th of July at high noon (well near as damn it) the Cooperage was sold at auction for a measely £310,000 by a bidder who was buying for a friend who was 'on holiday'. Iwas informed by an unknown foreign man, briefly and mysteriously that the friend was buying for the old owner who has just come out of prison. This is all i know...i was at the auction and, even tho it is a very sad occasion, i have lost my baby( silly i know but it has been a lttle obsession of mine for over 10 years), i liked it, it was fun and i do like a good chuckle Only that man bid as well, poor Cooperage....ah well, i tried and so did Heather, and all you people out there, we shall have our cooperage in our hearts and with a bit of time, maybe it'll be back.....VIVA LA COOPERAGE!!
