News News News Job opportunity .......

WonderZoo in conjunction with IMPERFECT CINEMA and Soapbox Culture are seeking an enthusiastic freelance researcher to play a vital role in developing the literary sector in Plymouth as part of a research and development project funded by Plymouth Octopus Project - POP+

The intention is to investigate the potential to create a new and innovative literary festival for Plymouth.

Who we are: WonderZoo is a Plymouth-based arts collective specialising in spoken word and performance events, workshops and activities. Thanks to funding from Plymouth Octopus Project, we are working with Imperfect Cinema, an independent, social-participatory platform for film, sound and the moving image and Soapbox Culture, a lively, friendly open mic night for spoken word, to research and develop a new and innovative literary festival for Plymouth.

About the role: You will be responsible for providing high quality research to the team across various aspects of our work, including looking at previous literary festivals in Plymouth and their effectiveness, as well as the reasons behind this, researching other events in places with a similar demographic and contacting and discussing the project with other organisations. Working closely with the project partners, you will be required to be flexible, whilst maintaining focus on the research interest at hand. In the light of the current situation, you will also be expected to investigate new ways of managing and putting on events in a time of constantly changing regulations due to Covid-19.

You will work remotely using your own equipment, unless regulations change, in which case you will be expected to attend meetings in person. You may also need to meet some people in person, in accordance with social distancing.

Location: Home working, dependant on changes in regulations. Must live in the Plymouth area and have an interest in the cultural development of the city.

Hours: A total of 104 hours over a period of one year, with the potential for additional work if additional funding is secured. You will be required to attend monthly update meetings.
Pay: £15/hour.

Main responsibilities and duties:
Generating research and evidence for reports and briefings:
Undertaking qualitative and quantitative research (phone interviews, survey design, creating tables/graphs and seeking out official data, transcribing interviews)
Reviewing publications of relevance to the development of the cultural sector and a literary festival

Essential skills and experience:
At least one year of relevant work experience
Graduate degree or equivalent relevant experience. Desirable: knowledge of literary events and the cultural sector in general.
Demonstrable qualitative and quantitative research skills: experience in a research or non-voluntary environment is advantageous
Organisational skills
Strong attention to detail and proven ability to produce accurate work
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in meetings
Flexible, willing and enthusiastic to work on a range of activities
Ability to work with little supervision, seeking advice and support when needed
Excellent computer skills, with knowledge and practice of Word and Excel.
Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with people from a range of backgrounds and develop collaborative working relationships.

Committed and driven to help achieve the aims of the literary festival research and development project.
Committed to the goals of improving collaboration and learning in the area.

How to apply: Please submit a CV and short covering letter to [email protected] outlining how you meet the skills and experience in the job description by 12pm on Monday 26th October. Interviews will take place in mid November and the role will begin in December.
