Our Year 7 Rounders team had a phenomenal fixture yesterday. The sun was shining and the girls were on top form! ⚾

Our first game was against Sir John Hunt. Our batting was a bit rusty to begin with, but nevertheless we had two big hits from Ellie and Thea- both scoring full rounders. Throughout the game and with a change of ball for the second innings, our batting improved drastically - resulting in us scoring 8 rounders. Despite our slow start with batting, our fielding was slick and the team were working together excellently. Special mentions to Poppy with her mighty long throw, Rashida for catching someone out and our trio with Edie (backstop), Asena (2nd base) and Ellie (backing up 2nd) for communicating extremely well and stopping the opposition from scoring. Our fielding efforts meant that we won 8-5! 🥇

The team were now ready for the second match against Notre Dame. The girls started off strong with excellent fielding once again from our trio. The whole team were on alert mode and on their toes, resulting in the opposition only scoring 4 rounders. The team's batting performance was excellent, with Rashida and Thea being our strongest batters, and the following players scoring the team full rounders; Ellie, Asena, Lottie, Grace and Poppy. The team were once again victorious, with the result being 20-4! 🏆

We're proud of all your efforts and brilliant performances, so a big WELL DONE to the Year 7 team; Ellie D, Asena B, Edie G, Poppy C, Grace H, Lottie K, Thea D and Rashida A 👏🤩

Fit and Fed - FREE Holiday Club Places:

Dear Coombe Dean Community,

Does your family fit the following criteria?

- Children on benefit-related Free School Meals
- Children on Child Protection Plans
- Looked After Children
- Children with Education, Health Care Plans
- Foster Children
- Young Carers
- Children of recognised refugees
- Children from asylum-seeking

Plymouth City Council Sports Development Unit has received funding from the Department for Education to deliver a programme of FREE holiday clubs this summer.

The Fit and Fed holiday clubs will provide a safe and fun environment where children can experience a wide range of amazing activities including sports, dance, arts and crafts, and much more. Every child will also receive a healthy nutritional hot meal or packed lunch each day.

There are over 70 clubs taking place across the city at different times and for different age groups for more information please visit our website at:

Children can attend the same club for four weeks or visit a different club each week. There are limited spaces available so places will be given to those who apply first.

The Fit & Fed funding from the Department for Education is to support school-aged children from Reception to Year 11 who fall within the eligible groups.

Year 8 Rounders Match Report:

After a rushed start we had our first game against Plymstock School. We started off batting and the team were off to a brilliant start with them all making big hits, scoring Coombe Dean 8 rounders, and with highlight hits from Serafine and Heidi. It was now time for us to field, we had a brilliant duo with Heidi backing up Aimee, which resulted to Aimee getting the opposition out at 2nd base. We had a fantastic catch from Holly and brilliant long throws from Lucy. Due to the outstanding fielding the team displayed, we won 8 rounders to 3! 🤩

We moved onto our second game against Plympton Academy. The team’s confidence and spirits were high and we were ready to take on another team. We started off fielding with the girls feeling the pressure and making a few mistakes, but Captain Lucy made sure she stayed vocal and motivated the team. We had two great catches from Holly and Taylor, and our trio of Heidi, Roma and Aimee, working well to get the opposition out on 2nd again. We were then batting. I can say I have seen a huge improvement from Taylor’s batting as she managed to hit the ball and score us a rounder, along with great hits from Serafine, Heidi, Roma and Alexa, scoring again full rounders and Caitlin and Holly scoring 1/2. Brilliant batting once again, giving us another win with the score finishing on 12½ rounders to 7½ 🏆

AMAZING performance from the whole team. Well done Caitlin C-D, Lucy H, Serafine C, Holly K, Taylor M, Alexa U, Heidi B, Roma S H and Aimee C 👏

I would like to introduce the new Handball Club in Plymouth...

We have just restarted Handball, offering sessions at Plymouth University (see image) 👀

During the summer period, sessions will be every other week, hopefully leading to regular weekly sessions and
opportunities to compete from September.

The sessions might be interesting for students who choose Handball for GCSE or for students with a general interest in the sport.

The summer sessions will be mixed sessions (male/female and youth/adults), whereas the September sessions are planned to be split at least into junior and adult sessions (depending on participation)

(The poster says 16+, but 15 might be OK if physically capable to play with adults)

Keiron has managed his busy Coombe Dean School - Post 16 Centre A-Level schedule so that he could travel to El Salvador, where he is currently competing in the World Junior Surfing Championships, and we wish him every bit of success! 💯💪

YEAR 7 ROUNDERS MATCH REPORT ⚾

It was the Year 7 rounders team's second fixture at Devonport High School for Girls. They knew what to expect and were comfortable and confident in their positions - ready to take on the two teams we were playing; Plymstock School and DHSG.

Our first game against Plymstock was a test match to trial the team’s positions. We started off a bit nervous and shaky, and that was shown in the girls' decision making when fielding. Nonetheless, the team (when batting) was able to score 3 ½ rounders with Grace and Poppy being the top scorers. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to take the win.

The team looked at the game as a warm up ready for our toughest game against DHSG, which they absolutely delivered in winning the game. We were up first for fielding. Grace H bowled some fierce balls, pressurising a few of their batters to miss, and we had Asena on 2nd and captain Ellie backing up - great team work was displayed between them. Our batting was our strongest point, with the girls whizzing around the posts scoring plenty of rounders by the end of the game. We had some smashing hits from Asena, Lowenna, Grace, Thea and Rashida. Due to the team's excellent batting performance we won the game 15 – 14. One highlight of the game was Bo catching her DHSG sister out, which everyone was thrilled about 💯🤩

A brilliant effort and tremendous performance team. Well done to each of you; Ellie D, Asena B, Rashida A, Poppy C, Thea D, Bo W, Grace H, Eddie G, Lowenna S and Lottie K 👏

On a wet Wednesday afternoon, some of our athletes took part in the Plymouth School's Athletics Trials at Brickfields.

In tough conditions, we witnessed some great performances and now boast FOUR Plymouth Champions!

Our Plymouth Champions are; David O, Khalifa K, Ashden P and Bram H-G. 🏆

Well done to the whole group, and good luck with your selections to the West Devon team.
