Barbican Theatre is a dynamic charity established in 1980. Young people and the development of creative skills are at the heart of all that we do. Our ambition has been to raise the standard of dance and theatre performance being produced by, with and for young people. We seek to challenge what traditional notions of theatre and dance are and liberate the imagination of young people to create fresh and exciting work that comes from new and unusual voices – voices that are often unheard.

Celebrating 100 years of Beryl Cook 🎨

Beryl Cook: A Private View heads to Plymouth’s Barbican Theatre from 10–12 September, bringing the much-loved Plymouth artist to life on stage.

The play offers a glimpse into the woman behind her bold, playful paintings, with one of her works being completed live on stage.

It's a unique celebration of one of Plymouth’s most beloved artists, marking what would have been her 100th birthday.

Join the Rev. Dan Fisher and his congregation in this hilarious, heart-wrenching new play as they strive to become a truly β€˜Bloomin’ Church!’

With real-life stories, poetry, and song, this uplifting show cracks open the walls of β€œchurch”, revealing the mess, the beauty, and the surprising potential to bloom when we’re brave enough to be ourselves.

Hilarious, honest and bursting with song!

πŸ“£ Scratch Night line-up announcement πŸ“£

We are excited to announce the line up to our Pathways scratch night on Saturday 19th September. Our four wonderful acts are;

- NooN Collective presenting 'st0rm'

NooN will present st0rm β€” a live dialogue between sound, movement and light where the outcome is not fixed and must be found. Storms are expressions of dynamic systems continually reorganising themselves across ecological, technological, political and social scales, reminding us that change is not an interruption of equilibrium, but part of how equilibrium is continually re-established.

The show is something of a ride β€” for both players and audience. As storms generate and respond to energetic fields, the audience and players collaborate to create a unique experience every time st0rm is performed.

- Perdita Stott presenting 'Ugly'

Chloe needs everyone to love her. Michelle wants everyone to stop looking at her.

Forced together for a school project on β€œinner beauty”, they create a website designed to make girls feel seen. At first, Chloe and Michelle think they have built something powerful but then the anonymous confessions begin.

Darkly funny, raw and unsettling, Ugly is a physical new play about female friendship, self-image and the dangerous power of being seen. When everyone is watching, who gets to control the story?

- Flo Limb presenting 'The Last Supper'

We set the scene in The Golgatha, a dying drag club run by Jesus. Judas, Peter and Thomas are drag queens who work at the club, navigating the complex relationships between one another and their petty drag queen dramas.

Full of comedy, chaos and many a biblical reference, the story explores friendship, betrayal, faith and the messy dynamics of keeping a dying club β€” and each other β€” alive.

- Everything but Theatre presenting 'Happy Friday'

Happy Friday explores the blurred lines between ambition, identity, and burnout. Blending live music, looping, storytelling, media art, and theatrical performance, the work examines what happens when the pursuit of success begins to reshape who we are.

Inspired by corporate culture, job applications, and the pressure to be endlessly productive, Happy Friday asks how much of ourselves we're willing to edit to meet professional expectations. Both humorous and unsettling, it is a performance for anyone who has rewritten themselves for a job, chased the next opportunity, or wondered where ambition ends and authenticity begins.
