Last minute preps for showing some recent drawings part of

I've left it ridicously last minute because I've been the producer and all-round run abouter for the event, which I highly recommend people go and see as there is so much happening locally!

Check out and .plymouth both part of Devon Open Studios and all within walking distance from Leadworks in Plymouth.

The works on show are part of a body of work called 'Of Gods and Goddesses - that is All' which looks at the different ways we revere, adore and contort the beautiful fleshy vessel we inhabit.

The exhibition opens tomorrow evening from 5.30 - 8pm, and then runs across this weekend from 11am to 4pm on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th September.

It's free and open to all has a bar and I'll have some playful drawing exercises for you to have a go should you fancy.

I hope to see you there ###x

We still have a few places left for the Walk & Draw at Burrator/ Sheeps Tor on Sunday, if you fancy getting away from the seasonal mayhem.

As the Winter solstice is almost upon us, now is the perfect time for breaking away and reflecting on the past year, whilst appreciating the beauty that surrounds us.

Drawing gives us this space - to notice and to look afresh.

The workshop is open to all levels, from beginners to more experienced artists, remembering that drawing is a process where every blank page offers something new to learn.

With an emphasis on experimentation and creativity, dRAWing Space encourages different ways of drawing to explore how we might convey the 'epic' landscape of the moor through the graphic medium.

We will meet at the Burrator Discovery Centre at 10.30am, and for the first part of the session, we will look at a range of artists, working past and present, to gain inspiration, then we will get out and about and draw in situ, returning to the centre for a longer drawing session in the afternoon.

We operate in all weather's, knowing we have a warm base to retreat to (thank you, South West Lakes Trust ).

The only exception is ice, so I'm watching the forecast closely. It looks like the cold snap eases on Sunday, with conditions becoming milder and will keep you all posted.

In the meantime, get paper, drawing materials, and walking boots at the ready!

As part of the Walk & Draw: Coastal workshop we looked at the illustrations of seaweed collected and recorded by the Self-Taught Victorian Marine Biologist Margaret Gatty.

Working at a time when women were excluded from formal scientific institutions, the amateur route of collecting and study provided an acceptable way for women to engage with scientific research. Within the fields of mycology and botany woman made huge advancements to knowledge, collecting, studying, researching and analysing specimens. Often this information was passed on to male colleagues who published the work without crediting the original author.

Margaret Gatty was one of a number of women who studied seaweed.

"Feel the luxury of not having to be afraid of your boots… Feel all the comfort of walking steadily forward, the very strength of the soles making you tread firm — confident in yourself..."

What else to do on a stormy grey November day, but to head to the coast and draw the wildness! Thank you to the wonderful group of artists who braved the rain and wind to draw in situ on the beach. As one participant said "there's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing".

For inspiration we looked at sketchbook drawings of Van Gogh and Turner, all the way through to the Viral Landscape photographs of Helen Chadwick. We experimented with mark making, mapping and thinking about the epic and the small, with a nod to the pioneer victorian female artists/scientists who catalogued, studied and drew so beautifully the range of seaweeds found on our shores.

Thank you so much to for letting us use the Wembury Marine Centre as a shelter to draw and reflect on the live experience. We are very grateful for all the special work you do!

Yesterday's life drawing session was wonderful. So much energy and focus in the room; everyone on their own drawing journey and what an amazing journey it was. Across 3 hours you could see ideas and work develop and progress on the paper. Everyone pushing and persisting and finding a way through, because translating the moving body into a drawing is challenging. The process requires a letting go of traditional methods of life drawing in order to convey movement. Someone said "its like drawing a ghost, he (Charlie, the model) is there and then he's not".

The process can sometimes be frustrating but the beauty of drawing as part of a group class is that everyone is in the same boat, each trying to find a way through... and sure enough, once eye to hand muscles begin to fire-up and we let go, dare to take risks and not worry about mistakes (we always have plenty of paper!), the lines begin to speak of motion and, of Charlie - his essence captured on paper.

It was an absolute privilege to witness everyone's journey and to feel the creativity in the room.

Thank you to the ever inspiring who kept everyone on their toes and to all the participants who broke through the movement barrier and produced some fabulous work. You are all true artists: tenacious, vital, searching, brave and bold. Thank you also to the wonderful Leadworks - a wonderful creative organisation providing a space for talented communities 💖

A cheeky talisman made in today's Halloween craft workshop at I think I fell for this guarding being - wearing a breast plate and sheafs of corn as her armature; complete with a petalled leg shield, she strides out her wooded limbs unafraid of the darkening night! A good charm indeed!
