Keith Mackenzie - Playwright

Keith Mackenzie - Playwright I’m a Perthshire based playwright writing stories with humour and heart.

A Thousand Invisible Choices won the Scott Salver Award (2026) for best new play, and was performed at the SCDA Scottish Finals in Pitlochry Theatre. After many years of performing on stage, I’ve turned my love of theatre into a passion for creating new work. I focus mainly on one-act plays, shaped by humour, strong characters, and emotional honesty. I’m excited to be developing stories that conne

ct with audiences and provide fresh opportunities for both amateur and professional theatre groups. For script requests or licensing enquiries, please message me here or email [email protected]

Great for A Thousand Invisible Choices to have another opportunity to be seen again, this time at East Kilbride Rep Theatre Club as part of RepFest 2026. The performance by The Wee Perthshire Dram-a Company picked up 2nd place in the competition 🏆 and there was also a wee best actor award thrown into the mix 😉 Some fantastic comments from the adjudicator and audience… it’s lovely to see the play connecting so well with people.

*Script Library - One-Act Plays Available*

If you’re part of a drama group and looking for your next one-act play, I’ve put together a small collection of my scripts that are available to read online:

I’ve recently had a number of requests to share these more widely, following the success of A Thousand Invisible Choices, which won the Scott Salver for Best Original Script at the Scottish One Act Finals (a national playwriting award).

These plays are written with amateur and community theatre in mind:

• Small casts
• Simple staging
• Strong, rewarding roles
• Engaging stories

If anything catches your eye, feel free to drop me a message. I’m always happy to chat or send scripts directly.

Huge congratulations to The Wee Perthshire Dram-a Company 🎉 I’m probably not the most impartial voice, but what an amazing job you’ve done with A Thousand Invisible Choices. So proud of what’s been achieved 😊

Can we just talk about last night….. We are absolutely DELIGHTED to announce…..
🏆WE CAME THIRD! 🏆 at the Scottish Community Drama Association Scottish Finals in Pitlochry Festival Theatre

Honestly, we are so so happy and proud of our achievements. It’s been a lot of hard work, many rehearsals and some ups and downs (ferries - shoutout to NorthLink Ferries who got us to Orkney!) so this means A LOT to us all.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way, friends and family, we couldn’t have done it without you.

Thank you to the lovely Aberfeldy Drama Club for not only a great feed on Friday, but for the support and help for the finals - much appreciated.

An extra special mention to our very own Keith Mackenzie - Playwright who not only blew us all away with his performance on stage on Friday night he also only went and won the Scott Salver Playwriting Competition 2026 for “A Thousand Invisible Choices” So well deserved. We look forward to the next one… no pressure Keith Mackenzie!

Another special mention to the Bon Accord Players who came in First place. They have been so kind and supportive to us and we wish them all the successes for when they represent Scotland in the National Finals in July. Respect, support and friendship go a long way in the drama community.

Feeling proud, grateful, tired(!) but extremely happy right now.

Really pleased to receive this feedback from the script reviewers commissioned by Lazy Bee Scripts:

“I was drawn into this script from the first few exchanges and was delighted by the extraordinary balance of the plot. It’s incredibly difficult to manage to ‘both sides’ hot-button topics like these, and this play does it with care, not belittling either viewpoint, or picking one over the other. I hope future audiences find it as enlightening as I did.”

It’s a 35-minute one-act play for 3F and 1M, and very easy to stage.

Now available for reading and licensing through Lazy Bee Scripts.

Final week.

“A Thousand Invisible Choices” has had quite a journey, and it’s been brought to life so thoughtfully by The Wee Perthshire Dram-a Company at every stage.

It returns as part of the SCDA One-Act Finals this Friday at Pitlochry Festival Theatre.

If you’re able to come along, it would be lovely to have your support.
