Keith Mackenzie - Playwright https://keithmackenzieplaywright.com/ After many years of performing on stage, I’ve turned my love of theatre into a passion for creating new work.

Perthshire-based playwright. 'A Thousand Invisible Choices' won the Scott Salver Award (Scotland, 2026) and the Geoffrey Whitworth Trophy (UK, 2026) for Best Original Play. I focus mainly on one-act plays, shaped by humour, strong characters, and emotional honesty. I’m excited to be developing stories that connect with audiences and provide fresh opportunities for both amateur and professional the

atre groups. For script requests or licensing enquiries, please message me here or email [email protected]

I’m never quite sure whether being in a play you’ve written yourself is a good idea… or something a playwright should avoid at all costs! 😄

There are probably arguments both ways - but for better or worse, I’ll be stepping back into the shoes of Cam, a character I’ve become rather fond of over the past few months, on Friday night at Caputh Village Hall with The Wee Perthshire Dram-a Company

And apparently this is my favourite line…

I've finally got round to putting together a website for my one-act plays!

There’s a synopsis, cast size and running time for each play, which will hopefully make it a little easier for theatre groups to browse through.

Have a look if you fancy it, and please feel free to share with anyone in the theatre world who might be looking for something new to read or perform.

This Saturday ‘A Thousand Invisible Choices’ will be performed for the fifth time - something you hope for when you write a play… but never really expect!

The play has had an incredible journey, reaching the Scottish Community Drama Association One-Act Finals, and I was honoured that the script received the Geoffrey Whitworth Trophy for Best Original Script at the British One-Act Finals.

I’m delighted it’s returning to Blairgowrie as part of an evening of entertainment from The Wee Perthshire Dram-a Company alongside the wonderfully quirky ‘Max Dix, Zero to Six’.

If you haven’t seen it yet (or you have, but would like to see it again alongside another play) I’d love to welcome you along. Full details are on the poster below, and I hope to see some of you there!

Delighted to be spending this weekend at the British One Act Finals.

Not every day you find yourself in a festival programme like this!

Looking forward to the live reading of ‘A Thousand Invisible Choices’ this afternoon, before picking up a rather special ‘wee’ trophy tonight 😊

Wonderful news to hear that ‘A Thousand Invisible Choices’ has won the Geoffrey Whitworth Trophy, a UK-wide award for original playwriting.

Theatre is always a team effort, so this recognition also belongs to The Wee Perthshire Dram-a Company who brought the script to life, and to the fantastic audiences who came along for the journey.

Huge thanks to the judges, SCDA, UKCDFF, and everyone who has sent such lovely messages of support. It means a great deal.

Now… back to the writing 😂

🏆🏆🏆

This years Geoffrey Whitworth winner for original playwriting competition, run by the United Kingdom Community Drama Festival Federation, is Keith Mackenzie with his brilliant play "A Thousand Invisible Choices"

Final judge Colin Dolley said:

“There is much originality in the style and structure of the writing in this absorbing script "

Runner-up was “We Found Love in a Homeless Place" by Jamie McLeish from Sunderland.

Congratulations to both and thank you to all who entered the competition.

A huge thank you to EGTG for hosting a read-through of my play ‘While We Wait’ last night 📖

One of the things I love about theatre is that a script changes the moment actors get hold of it. You start to hear rhythms, relationships and moments that you don’t always see when you’re sitting alone in front of a laptop.

If anyone would like to read this play, or any of my other plays, please just let me know.
