Meconopsis moment!🪴🪻

Our gorgeous Meconopsis plants are ready for sale - grown from seed collected from our very own Explorers Garden, so they’re home-grown heroes with serious flower power.

You’ll find them front of house in our nursery plant area, ready to put down roots in a new home.

Numbers are LIMITED, and once they’re gone, they’re gone… so pop by soon before there’s none left!

The Explorers Garden at Pitlochry Festival Theatre is now open to visitors.

Conceived as a Theatricum Botanicum, and built in conjunction with the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh in the late 1990s, the Explorers Garden offers stunning spaces for art performance including the Pagoda, the Pavilion and the Amphitheatre.

The Explorers Garden is home to many rare varieties of meconopsis which bloom in the month of May. We even have our own version that is unique to us, the Himalayan blue Poppy GSG Explorers.

This predominantly woodland garden is a rare opportunity to experience art in nature, in a stunning Highland location and definitely one for your theatre to-do list. The Garden is also available for private events and makes a breath-taking wedding venue.

From Heather to Himalayas: Walking in the footsteps of Scotland's plant hunters 🌱

Our very own Landscape and Garden Manager Caroline Bavey is in conversation with Artistic Director Alan Cu***ng at Winter Words Festival, where she will debut her brand new book all about the beauty and rich history of the Explorers Garden.

Every path, tree, and blossom tells the tales of Scottish explorers over the past 300 years and celebrates the curiosity that inspired them to see the world not just as it was, but as it could grow.

Happy Red Squirrel Appreciation Day! 🐿️

If you spend any time in our Explorers Garden, you will soon find that we are home to a whole scurry of red squirrels, who are no stranger to the winding paths of the Garden, like this one who stopped for a snack at one of our feeders! 🥜

For red squirrel enthusiasts (like us), our Garden is one of the best places to see them, as we are fortunate that their grey counterpart haven't made their way up as far as Pitlochry.

When grey squirrels move in, the red population reduces rapidly due to competition for resources such as food and living space. Whilst they aren't inherently bad, tracking the spread of grey squirrels helps to contain them to areas where red squirrel populations have already dwindled, and helps to sustain and promote the growth of native red squirrel populations in other areas.

Explorers Garden is currently closed for the season, but will reopen from April this year. 🌱
