The Village Players - Pilning The Village Players is a small amateur theatre group based in Pilning Village Hall. Established for almost 30 years, for young and old.

We have been established for almost 30 years, drawing our membership from a wide area in South Gloucestershire and beyond. We pride ourselves that so many of our younger members have been so inspired by us, and by what they learn whilst with us, that they have gone on to a professional study of theatre/performance arts at universities and to employment in this field. We have always welcomed anyone

who has shown an interest in what we do and have never turned anyone away. Our membership ranges from young people in their first decade to the more senior in their ninth! Our shows are generally well attended by the local and wider community and our pantomimes have been known to be so much of a sell-out that we have had to add extra dates to accommodate all our customers. We believe that we provide a service to the community, both for our members, in terms of skills, training and for our audiences, in terms of value for money entertainment. many of our customers say they would prefer to come to see us, with our friendly family atmosphere, than go to the Bristol Hippodrome; praise indeed, we feel!

And that’s a wrap folks. The set’s been broken up, Rio, pirate ships and desert islands have disappeared. The cast and crew are putting their legs up for a rest. Thanks to all who came to see us, the feedback’s been brilliant- so glad you all enjoyed it.

Keep an eye on the page for our next updates. And if you sat there and thought I’d love to be part of that let us know. It’s not just about acting either, if you fancy behind the scenes there’s set design to be done, props to be made / sourced, lighting and all sorts of unseen heroes that bring together the performance.

For now, The Village Players wishes all our audiences, previous and current members and anyone else reading this because it popped up on your feed a peaceful and happy Christmas.

Next Wednesday the Pirates attack Pilning. It’s panto time - laughs, baddies, weddings and songs. Looking forward to coming back after the enforced break? Not been for awhile and reminiscing how much you enjoyed your last visit?

The lifeblood of a show is the audience, it’s all for you. Come along, be entertained, lose yourself in the worlds of Rio and the Seven Seas.

Hello friends of The Village Players

I would like to tell you about The Village Players’ forthcoming pantomime. Obviously, we haven’t been able to put on a seasonal show since December 2019 - maybe you came to see 'Adventure in Pantoland' back then, before the dreaded Covid struck - but we have one for you now! We’ve missed the stage, we’ve missed you and we’d love you to join us, with your families and friends.

Why not come along to Pilning Village Hall to see ROBINSON CRUSOE & the PIRATES, a swashbuckling tale of nautical nastiness, mid-ocean mayhem and Brazilian bravado? Bring along a group of 10 and get one free seat. Bring your little ones … the bravest of them can come to the front, to use our smaller chairs and see the action better.

We have Nutty Nick with his coconuts and his rather naughty dog … there's Dame Margarita Juicilita with her treasure map that she doesn’t realise IS a treasure map … and we have the nasty Captain Cut-throat (Boo!), who does ... aided by two very silly pirates, Skull-Duggery and Cross-Bones.

Of course, there’s our hero, Robinson Crusoe himself, and our heroine, Juanita, the girl he loves but is not allowed to see by her father, Captain Seasalt. And there's his man, Friday, of course! But there are also man-eating cannibals, sailors and pirates, underwater creatures and ... a cheeky little parrot. Squawk!

We love the magical spirit, Coral, who is determined to help Robinson (Hooray!) and we hate the underwater, immortal baddie, Davy Jones, who wants Robinson in his underwater Locker (Boo! Hiss!)

We travel from Rio de Janeiro on the ocean blue and down into its depths before finding Robinson shipwrecked on a tropical island. As for his travelling companion and lady love … well, I’d better not tell you everything! Spoilers!

There are songs and dances a-plenty and, of course, there’s a special song for you to help out with - what is a panto without Audience Participation?

Our first performance is on Wednesday November 30th and we shall run through the week to an afternoon matinee and an early evening show on Saturday 3rd December.
