This evening in Pickering Book Tree 🎶

There’s still time to join us if you’re yet to book!

We’re very much looking forward to welcoming musician, author and wildlife biologist Toni Bunnell to perform her original songs accompanied on guitar, Appalachian dulcimer and hurdy gurdy.

Toni’s music is deeply rooted in the land, transporting us to the earthy richness of the British countryside, the free-flowing musicality of streams, the incredible wildlife for whom this island is home, and the urgent need to protect them.

Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. There will be a licensed bar and a raffle too.

Tickets are pay what you feel (£5 minimum, £10 suggested) and 100% of all ticket (+ raffle) sales will be donated to Protect the Wild.

Or message Pickering Book Tree to reserve places and pay on the door.

This brilliant day at Beck Isle Museum is this Saturday!

Later that evening there will be a ceilidh at Pickering Memorial Hall — always so much fun for beginners to ceilidh regulars, and all dances will be guided.

Saturday will be a wonderful community day in Pickering!

See Beck Isle Museum’s post below and pickeringmidsummerfestival.co.uk for more info.

This will be such a brilliant daytime conversation in Pickering’s medieval church with nationally bestselling author, historian and artist Amy Jeffs!

From women communing with flocks of birds to men raised by wolves, and severed heads calling from between bristling paws, the stories of saints have shaped landscapes, rituals and folk beliefs.

For just £5 you can hear about these incredible legends and their fascinating histories under Pickering’s beautiful medieval paintings depicting some of the same stories.

Plus you’ll be supporting the roof and murals restoration fund, as £2 from each ticket will be donated to help protect these rare medieval wall paintings.

This will be a lovely walk around Pickering Beck and Castle hearing about the folklore of the trees we can find on our doorstep!

Author, illustrator and tree enthusiast Aidan Meighan will talk about the myths, seasonal customs and superstitions of the trees along the route…

Starting outside Beck Isle Museum we’ll gently follow the Beck up to Pickering Castle and back down to St Peter's and St Paul's Church, stopping to hear about some of the many types of tree we’re lucky to have so close to Pickering!

There will be a sandwich buffet in the garden of the Forest and Vale Hotel for anyone on the walk who wants to join us for food afterwards (we need to know a couple of days ahead for this).

We’re really looking forward to this intriguing tree walk!
