This week’s window belongs to the wonderfully talented Madeleine Dawson — Madeleine Dawson | Mountain Art + Calm Landscapes

I always love chatting to our artists about what inspires their work, and something Madeleine wrote really stayed with me.

She talks about her love of the mountains and how they make everyday worries feel smaller, leaving her feeling calmer, lighter and more alive.

She paints them because she misses them as soon as she leaves.

I think that’s something many of us can relate to. Whether it’s the mountains, the sea, the countryside or somewhere much closer to home, there are places that just make us feel good.

Madeleine’s paintings aren’t simply about capturing a landscape. They’re about capturing that feeling and bringing a little bit of it into your everyday life.

Her beautiful collection is now in our Artist of the Week window until Friday 3rd July, and I hope you’ll pop by and see it for yourself.

I’ve been meaning to write this post for a few days now.

A little while ago, I asked for your feedback on Sage and Salt Studio. I was hoping for a few ideas and suggestions, but over 100 of you took the time to fill in the survey and I’ve spent the last couple of weeks reading every single response.

I knew what the answers would be, really. I know what you buy, what workshops you enjoy and what parts of the business are busiest.

But what I didn’t realise was how much I needed to hear what you had to say.

May was a quiet month. Really quiet. And like most small business owners, it’s hard not to question yourself during those times. Am I doing the right things? Should I be changing direction? Should I be doing things differently?

Then I read comments like this:

“A beautiful space to get creative and fuel the soul with beautiful ideas and conversation with like-minded peeps. What a wonderful discovery of artists displayed for purchase. Really incredible place.”

I’ll be honest, that one stopped me in my tracks.

The survey didn’t tell me anything I didn’t already know about Sage and Salt Studio. What it did do was remind me why I opened it in the first place and give me the confidence to keep building on the things so many of you already love.

So today, I just wanted to say thank you.

Thank you for supporting local artists and makers.
Thank you for booking workshops.
Thank you for popping in for a browse.
Thank you for buying gifts, cards and artwork.
Thank you for the chats, the encouragement and the kindness.

We’ve created something really special here in Petersfield, and I feel very lucky to be here every day.

This week’s Maker Monday is all about the lovely Adele, creator of beautifully handmade soaps, shower steamers, and botanical bath products 🌿🫧

Working from her cottage in Milland, Adele creates small-batch products inspired by the changing seasons, garden scents, and comforting everyday rituals. Using plant-based ingredients, clays, botanical infusions, and essential oils, every product is thoughtfully crafted to bring a little calm and aromatherapy into your home.

Adele’s creative journey began with a fascination for scent, particularly rose geranium essential oil, before discovering the traditional craft of cold process soap making. Her love of handmade craftsmanship runs deep, shaped by a childhood filled with creativity, resourcefulness, and making things from scratch.

We absolutely love the natural beauty and thoughtful detail in Adele’s collection here at Sage and Salt Studio.

Yesterday’s celebration morning was everything we hoped it would be. ❤️

Seeing so many of the artists standing proudly beside their work, sharing the stories behind their happy places and chatting with visitors made all the hard work worthwhile.

My Happy Place has been such a special exhibition to curate. It’s a simple idea, but one that has sparked conversations, brought families together, encouraged people to pick up a paintbrush for the first time in years, and reminded us all to pause and appreciate the things that bring us joy.

Every artwork has a story, and every story has added something unique to this exhibition. We feel incredibly privileged that so many people trusted us with their memories, favourite places and treasured moments.

A huge thank you to everyone who has taken part, visited, voted and supported the exhibition so far. You’ve helped create something that feels much bigger than an art exhibition. It’s a celebration of our community and the happiness we can find in everyday moments.

If you haven’t visited yet, there’s still time! Come along, discover over 100 beautiful artworks, cast your vote for your favourites, and perhaps even find a happy place you’d like to take home. Every piece is available to purchase for £50.

This morning, we’re celebrating something really special. ❤️

Join us from 10am to 12pm for the opening celebration of our ‘My Happy Place’ Community Exhibition.

Over 100 people of all ages, from under 10s to adults, have shared their own interpretation of what makes them happy. Every piece tells a story, and hearing those stories has been one of the most rewarding things we’ve ever done at Sage and Salt Studio.

We’ve seen families creating together, people rediscovering their love of art, and individuals taking time to reflect on the places, people and moments that bring them joy. It’s been a beautiful reminder of the power of creativity to connect us.

Come along, meet some of the artists, explore the exhibition and cast your vote for your favourite artworks. The winning adult artist will receive £100, with art kits up for grabs for our children’s category winners.

And if you fall in love with a piece, every artwork in the exhibition is available to purchase for just £50. After all, someone else’s happy place might just be yours too.

The exhibition runs for the next two weeks, so there’s plenty of time to visit and cast your vote but we’d love to see you this morning and celebrate the amazing community that made this exhibition possible.

Yesterday's Mindful Monday was all about mandalas, creating beautiful patterns, adding colour, and taking a little time to slow down.

One of the lovely things about Mindful Monday is that every week is different. One week we might be painting with watercolours, another exploring alcohol inks, creating collages, making bookmarks, or trying something completely new. You don't need any experience or artistic talent, just a willingness to have a go.

Art has a wonderful way of helping us switch off from the busyness of everyday life. For an hour and a half, there's no pressure to produce a masterpiece. It's simply time to relax, create, chat if you want to, and enjoy the process.

We’re delighted to welcome Sarah as a new maker joining Sage and Salt Studio this June!

Sarah creates beautifully contemporary jewellery using miniature silkscreens on polymer clay, producing striking designs filled with colour, texture, and intricate detail. With a background in graphic design, her creative eye shines through in every piece.

After losing her job during lockdown, Sarah took the leap to start her own jewellery business and now works from her studio at Walford Mill Craft Gallery in Dorset alongside other talented makers.

Her collection will be arriving in the gallery this month and we can’t wait for you to see it. Which style of jewellery do you usually gravitate towards, bold statement pieces or something more delicate and subtle? 👇
