Ad-Lib Arts Youth Drama are proud to announce this year’s production of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ written by Shakespeare and abridged by Gerald P. Murphy.

This play is a magical comedy where love goes hilariously wrong. When four young lovers flee into an enchanted forest, mischievous fairies interfere, spells are miscast, and chaos ensues. Add a feuding fairy king and queen, a group of amateur actors rehearsing a play, and a donkey headed mishap, and you get a whirlwind of romance, confusion, and laughter before everything is (mostly) set right by morning.

💙FROM OUR DIRECTOR!💙

“As we prepare to bring *Come From Away* to Perth for the very first time with Ad Lib Arts, I thought I’d share a little about why this production means so much to me personally.

For anyone who doesn’t know me, I’m Victoria Lee Rice – Director and Musical Director of this production, Founder and Creative Director of Ad Lib Arts, and Programme Leader for Theatre courses at UHI Perth.

I created Ad Lib Arts over 11 years ago with a simple vision: to make arts provision more inclusive – not only for performers, but also for technical crew, musicians and audiences. Watching the organisation grow and create opportunities for so many people has been one of the greatest privileges of my career.

This year I’ve been incredibly lucky to work on four of my favourite productions – *Dear Evan Hansen*, *Footloose*, *Sunshine on Leith*, and now *Come From Away*.

But this show is different.

Newfoundland holds a very special place in my heart. I’ve been fortunate enough to visit this beautiful place twice in the last three years, and some of my happiest memories have been made there. I’ve explored incredible places including Gros Morne, the Tablelands and Fogo Island, and experienced unforgettable moments seeing icebergs and moose in the wild! More than anything though, it’s the people who have stayed with me. Newfoundland genuinely feels like home. The warmth, kindness and welcome I experienced there are unlike anywhere else.

To now bring this story to Perth feels incredibly special.

*Come From Away* has also been one of the most challenging productions I’ve worked on throughout my career – and after directing and musically directing around 50 full-scale productions, that’s saying something! The intricacy of the staging and the demands of the fast-paced score have pushed us all creatively, but our cast, band and crew have worked tirelessly to bring this story to life.

I feel incredibly privileged to work alongside so many talented people, and I cannot wait for audiences to experience this beautiful story of kindness, humanity and community.”

'Come From Away' chronicles the real-life experiences of the people of Gander, Newfoundland, and the almost 7000 airline passengers who were forced to land there when US air space was closed on September 11, 2001. Twelve actors tell the story of both the Islanders and the Plane People, revealing the fear and uncertainty that came with the terrorist attacks – as well as the profound generosity and compassion of strangers. The musical itself is heartfelt and accentuates the depths of human compassion, and the true story behind 'Come From Away' adds even more depth to this incredible show.
